  • UNDP Bahrain's program is structured around three interrelated pillars: Economic prosperity and sustainable livelihoods, Effective governance, human rights, and access to justice, and Environmental sustainability and climate resilience. These pillars reflect national priorities and constitute UNDP's substantive contribution to the implementation of the UNSDCF. The Country Office operationalizes these pillars through two integrated programme clusters, ensuring coherence and efficient delivery within a lean structure.

Job Overview:
The National Project Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring effective project management of the assigned project, maintaining the delivery of appropriate technical, operational, financial, and administrative outputs. This includes tracking project progress through monitoring, evaluation, and reporting. The role requires providing advisory support on climate resilience and river basin management issues to the Government and other partners, building strategic partnerships, and aligning the project with UN values and UNDP priorities. The incumbent will ensure the mainstreaming of gender, disability, and youth considerations in their field of expertise, promoting a safe and enabling environment free from discrimination and exploitation. The position demands a proactive approach to project management, requiring the development of comprehensive project work plans, timely submission of reports, and effective communication with stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The National Project Coordinator will manage and coordinate project activities based on the relevant Project Document, ensuring effective project management by maintaining the delivery of appropriate outputs. Specific responsibilities include developing detailed project work plans, preparing progress reports for donors and beneficiaries, monitoring project progress, securing necessary goods and services, managing project risks, and providing quality assurance for financial, procurement, and administrative processes. The coordinator will also maintain regular communication with local and international stakeholders, manage project tracking in QUANTUM, and ensure the transfer of project deliverables to national beneficiaries. Additionally, the role involves providing advisory support on climate resilience, identifying and synthesizing best practices, cultivating relationships with stakeholders, and ensuring alignment with UNDP priorities and values.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Development Studies, Social Policy, Social Sciences, Sustainable Development, Gender Studies, International Development/Relations, Public Policy, Political Law, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor's Degree) in the aforementioned areas, combined with an additional two years of qualifying experience, will be considered in lieu of the advanced degree. Applicants with a Master's degree are not required to have professional work experience, while those with a Bachelor's degree must have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience at the national or international level in the design, implementation, monitoring, and/or evaluation of development projects.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as Development Studies, Social Policy, Social Sciences, Sustainable Development, Gender Studies, International Development/Relations, Public Policy, Political Law, or a similar discipline. A first-level university degree (Bachelor's Degree) in these areas, along with two years of additional qualifying experience, will also be considered acceptable in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
The level of experience required for this position varies based on educational qualifications. Applicants with a Master's degree (or equivalent) are not required to have prior professional work experience. However, those with a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) must have at least two years of relevant professional experience at the national or international level, specifically in the design, implementation, monitoring, and/or evaluation of development projects. Experience in managing larger projects run by international organizations or large environmental protection projects is considered a strong asset.

Languages:
Fluency in both Arabic and English is required for this position. This bilingual proficiency is essential for effective communication with stakeholders and for the successful execution of project activities.

Additional Notes:
The National Project Coordinator will be engaged on a regular NPSA contract and will report to the Program Analyst for governance, human rights, access to justice, and social inclusion. The role requires the ability to work under pressure, strong drafting and presentation skills, and proficiency in computer applications, particularly the MS Office suite.
