Job Overview:
The Crisis Response logistics-manager" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Logistics Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring that logistics operations are efficient, compliant, and well-coordinated across various functions including procurement, supply chain management, fleet operations, warehousing, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security support, reporting, and field coordination. This position is responsible for overseeing procurement planning, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring transparent sourcing processes. The manager will also handle fleet operations and transport planning, support security protocols that impact logistics, lead and develop logistics staff, ensure accurate reporting and compliance with donor and organizational standards, maintain strong warehouse and inventory controls, and provide direct field support while representing logistics interests in coordination forums. The role requires a proactive approach to managing logistics operations in complex emergency situations, ensuring that supplies are procured efficiently and effectively to meet the needs of crisis-affected populations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities of the Crisis Response Logistics Manager include developing and managing supply strategies and procurement plans, maintaining vetted supplier databases, validating vendors, ensuring transparent processes, and tracking deliveries to prevent shortages or waste. The manager will also develop strategies to ensure supplies are procured during complex emergency situations, oversee regional procurement and supply chain processes to support global outbreak response and humanitarian-related programming, and lead security planning by updating movement protocols and monitoring incidents that affect logistics operations. Additionally, the manager will support country logistics teams through recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, and capacity building. Regular logistics reports will be produced, donor reporting supported, and internal supply chain audits conducted with follow-up on corrective actions. The manager may remotely supervise warehouse operations, ensure proper storage conditions, conduct stock counts, and implement practices that prevent losses or stock-outs. The role also involves representing logistics in regional coordination meetings and conducting field visits to provide technical support and operational oversight, as well as building country office capacities in inventory and warehouse management.
Required Qualifications:
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree plus 8 years of relevant humanitarian logistics and management experience in emergency contexts, or a Master’s degree plus at least 5 years of experience implementing humanitarian programming. Preferred certifications include professional certification or advanced training in logistics and/or supply chain management. Candidates should possess in-depth knowledge of humanitarian procurement, budgeting, and supply chain management best practices, as well as experience with multiple donor policies and regulations, including contract negotiation and vendor management. Strong understanding of international donor procurement rules and fraud detection is essential, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in engaging effectively with senior staff. The ability to work under pressure in complex emergency environments is also crucial.
Educational Background:
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, with a preference for those holding a Master’s degree. The educational background should be complemented by substantial experience in humanitarian logistics and management, particularly in emergency contexts. Advanced training or professional certification in logistics and/or supply chain management is highly desirable.
Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in a managerial role is required, with a strong emphasis on experience working with bilateral and multilateral humanitarian donors. Candidates should have relevant experience in fraud detection and compliance, as well as a proven track record in managing logistics operations in emergency settings. Experience utilizing data analytics software and/or AI to support the development of reports and efficient working methods is preferred.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Additional language skills may be considered an asset, particularly if they pertain to the regions where FHI 360 operates or where humanitarian crises are prevalent.
Additional Notes:
The expected hiring salary range for this role is KES 6,000,000 - 9,000,000 for annual basic salary. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 considers multiple factors, including relevant years of experience and education, internal equity, market pay, and budget constraints. For internal candidates, salary placement will also follow FHI 360’s current promotional increase guidelines.
