Job Overview:
The Protection Officer will be an integral member of the DRC Protection team, collaborating closely with the Protection Team Leader, Manager, and other team members to ensure the effective setup, implementation, and evaluation of protection interventions. The role focuses on delivering high-quality results in various protection programming areas, including gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and community-based protection initiatives. The Protection Officer will be responsible for ensuring that protection services are delivered in accordance with global standards and DRC's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This position requires a proactive approach to identifying community needs and gaps in protection services, as well as developing and implementing strategies to address these issues. The Protection Officer will also engage with community members to raise awareness about protection concerns and facilitate discussions that empower communities to take action on their own behalf.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess at least 3-4 years of experience in non-governmental organizations and humanitarian settings, specifically in protection programming. They should demonstrate experience in GBV prevention, community-based protection, and general protection. Experience in providing training or facilitating sessions on protection topics is essential, along with experience in supervising staff and/or volunteers. Candidates must exhibit the ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination, and safety of individuals at all times. Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required. Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity, and flexibility are also necessary attributes for this role.
Educational Background:
A university degree in fields such as Psychology, Social Sciences, Humanitarian Affairs, law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">International Law, Development, or any other related field is required for this position.
Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a minimum of 3-4 years of relevant experience in non-governmental organizations and humanitarian settings, particularly in protection programming. This experience should include work on GBV prevention and community-based protection initiatives.
Languages:
Fluency in both Arabic and English is mandatory for this position, as effective communication in these languages is crucial for the role.
Additional Notes:
This position is a national project-based contract with a duration of 15 months. The salary range starts from USD 1,225.00 per month. The duty station for this role is Gedaref, and the start date is as soon as possible. The closing date for applications is 4/08/202

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Technically supervising and supporting the field implementation of Protection Assistants, implementing partner staff, community volunteers, and community-based networks in GBV prevention and general protection programming.
- Identifying capacity gaps and areas for improvement within the team and proposing appropriate solutions, including delivering capacity-strengthening sessions as needed.
- Ensuring the quality of direct service delivery by Protection Assistants and partner staff, adhering to global standards and DRC SOPs.
- Implementing and overseeing protection monitoring activities, including data collection through focus group discussions (FGDs), key informant interviews (KIIs), observations, and incident reporting using Kobo.
- Leading community engagement and communication activities, including information dissemination through protection desks and awareness-raising sessions.
- Supporting community-based structures by facilitating meaningful group dialogue and mentoring participants to identify and address protection concerns.
- Ensuring a strong understanding of the Engaging Men as Allies (EMAA) curriculum and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support (PSS) interventions, supervising and facilitating sessions as per the work plan.
- Supporting the development and contextualization of protection tools and materials.
- Leading capacity-building initiatives on various protection topics. 1
- Ensuring protection mainstreaming across all project activities, including those outside the protection sector. 1
- Ensuring diverse representation among community mobilizers and focal points to enhance DRC's outreach to individuals in need of protection. 1
- Contributing to the engagement with community volunteers and focal points, including their identification, mobilization, onboarding, capacity building, and coordination of field activities. 1
- Maintaining effective referral pathways by supporting referral mapping and facilitating safe and timely referrals. 1
- Coordinating with relevant protection partners to strengthen service coordination and referral mechanisms. 1
- Assisting the Protection Team Leader and/or Protection Manager with logistical and administrative tasks. 1
- Supporting timely and accurate reporting of project activities, ensuring proper documentation and contribution to report drafting. 1
- Coordinating with the MEAL team to support monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning activities.
