Job Overview:
The National Biodiversity Finance Consultant will be responsible for leading a technical assignment aimed at enhancing biodiversity finance strategies in Tanzania. This role involves assessing the current financial mechanisms in place for biodiversity conservation and identifying opportunities for innovative financing solutions. The consultant will work closely with stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and local communities, to develop a comprehensive strategy that aligns with national biodiversity goals. The position requires a deep understanding of biodiversity finance, policy frameworks, and the socio-economic context of Tanzania. The consultant is expected to deliver high-quality outputs within a specified timeframe, ensuring that the strategies developed are practical, sustainable, and effectively address the challenges faced in biodiversity conservation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a thorough assessment of existing biodiversity finance mechanisms in Tanzania.
  • Identify gaps and opportunities for enhancing financial resources for biodiversity conservation.
  • Engage with stakeholders to gather insights and build consensus on biodiversity finance strategies.
  • Develop a comprehensive biodiversity finance strategy that includes innovative financing solutions.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with UNDP and other partners to ensure alignment with national and international biodiversity goals.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to stakeholders in implementing the finance strategy.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the implemented strategies and make necessary adjustments.
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions to build capacity among stakeholders regarding biodiversity finance.

Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in environmental science, finance, economics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in biodiversity finance, conservation finance, or related areas.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess complex financial mechanisms.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with the socio-economic context of Tanzania and its biodiversity challenges.
  • Experience working with international organizations, particularly UN agencies, is an advantage.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree or higher in environmental science, finance, economics, or a related field is required for this position. Candidates with a PhD or equivalent experience in biodiversity finance or related disciplines will be given preference. Relevant certifications in project management or biodiversity conservation will also be considered an asset.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in biodiversity finance, conservation finance, or related fields. Experience working in Tanzania or similar contexts is highly desirable. Proven track record of developing and implementing financial strategies for biodiversity conservation is essential. Familiarity with international biodiversity frameworks and funding mechanisms will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Swahili is an advantage, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders. Additional languages relevant to the region may also be beneficial.

Additional Notes:
This position is for an individual contractor and is expected to last for a period of 30 working days. The consultant will work remotely but may be required to attend meetings or workshops in Tanzania as necessary. The contract is part-time, and the consultant will be compensated based on the deliverables outlined in the contract.
