Established as an Extra-Provincial Corporation in Alberta, Canada in 2024, the organization has been granted special consultative status by the United Nations Economic and Social Council in 2020, which underscores its commitment to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. The organization operates with a mission that includes five key objectives: providing tools and opportunities for creative innovation and entrepreneurship, enabling networking and training activities, educating about fair business practices and social responsibility, guiding emerging entrepreneurs in understanding social and business ecosystems, and encouraging youth involvement in volunteering. The organization aims to ensure universal access to research and education by building digital platforms for community knowledge and supporting local ingenuity. Its primary focus areas include food security, advocacy, and education, with initiatives designed to positively impact local innovators, including newcomers in Canada who may face challenges related to integration and starting life in a new environment. The organization also emphasizes the importance of access to education, particularly in social entrepreneurship, as a powerful tool for these individuals to turn their experiences into practical solutions that benefit their communities. The current project supports the implementation of Cameroon's National Artificial Intelligence Strategy by promoting AI literacy, ethical AI, digital rights, and inclusive community participation through various engagement activities.

Job Overview:
The position involves supporting the editing, enhancement, and development of visual communication materials for community engagement and public awareness activities related to artificial intelligence. The role is designed for two Online Volunteers who will collaborate remotely with the project team for 6–10 hours per week over a period of 12 weeks. The volunteers will be responsible for creating professional visual communication materials that will be used in workshops, training sessions, public awareness campaigns, and the National AI Consultation. The expected results include improved quality and consistency of visual communication materials, the creation of professional materials for various project activities, and the delivery of communication assets in editable and ready-to-use formats. The role is crucial in increasing visibility and public engagement in Action Lab for Development’s AI activities, thereby contributing to the overall goal of enhancing public understanding of AI and encouraging responsible AI governance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities for the two Online Volunteers are as follows: Online Volunteer 1 – Community Engagement and Training Materials: This volunteer will be tasked with editing, improving, and formatting existing posters, flyers, banners, certificates, workshop materials, and other communication resources. They will also create new communication materials as needed to support project activities, develop or enhance infographics and visual illustrations on topics such as AI literacy, ethical AI, digital rights, and responsible AI. Additionally, they will format training presentations, educational resources, and workshop materials for both print and digital use, with an expectation to deliver 1–2 communication design packages per week based on project priorities. Online Volunteer 2 – Digital Communication and Awareness Campaigns: This volunteer will focus on editing and improving graphics for various digital platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, X, and WhatsApp. They will develop and update templates for digital awareness campaigns and online engagement, edit and enhance branding materials for the National AI Consultation, and create new digital communication assets as required to support project outreach. Similar to the first volunteer, they are also expected to deliver 1–2 digital communication packages per week based on project priorities.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for this position include a strong background in graphic design, proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), and experience in creating visual communication materials for various platforms. The candidates should possess a good understanding of AI concepts, digital rights, and ethical AI practices. Additionally, strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a remote team environment are essential. The volunteers should be detail-oriented, creative, and capable of meeting deadlines while managing multiple tasks effectively.

Educational Background:
Candidates for this position should ideally have a degree in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field. Relevant certifications in design software or courses in digital communication and marketing would be advantageous. A strong portfolio showcasing previous design work, particularly in community engagement or educational contexts, will be highly regarded.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have prior experience in graphic design, particularly in creating materials for community engagement, educational programs, or awareness campaigns. Experience working with non-profit organizations or in projects related to social entrepreneurship and community development would be beneficial. Familiarity with AI-related topics and previous involvement in similar projects will be considered a plus.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all communication and materials will be developed in English. Knowledge of French would be an asset, given the bilingual nature of Cameroon and the potential need to engage with French-speaking communities.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position that requires a commitment of 6–10 hours per week over a 12-week period. The role is remote, allowing volunteers to work from anywhere. The organization is open to recruiting volunteers internationally, and there are no specific seniority levels required for this position. Compensation is not provided, as this is a volunteer role, but it offers valuable experience in graphic design and community engagement within the context of AI initiatives.
