Job Overview:
The Senior Program Officer for Assistive Technology (AT) will play a crucial role in providing technical and programmatic leadership to strengthen national systems for Assistive Technology in Zambia. This position involves leading the implementation of activities aimed at improving governance, policy development, market shaping, procurement, product standardization, financing, and the integration of Assistive Technology within Zambia's health, education, and social protection systems. The officer will work closely with various ministries, including the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, as well as local manufacturers and organizations of persons with disabilities. The goal is to establish a sustainable Assistive Technology ecosystem that enhances access to quality assistive products and promotes inclusive health, education, and social protection outcomes across the country.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Program Officer will be responsible for providing strategic technical leadership to strengthen national governance and stakeholder engagement for Assistive Technology in Zambia. This includes supporting government-led coordination mechanisms, promoting integration of AT across various systems, and providing technical support for oversight functions such as policy strengthening and procurement systems. The officer will drive program performance by supporting planning, budgeting, implementation, monitoring, and reporting on program milestones. They will represent CHAI in national technical working groups, facilitate multi-sectoral collaboration, and support the implementation of the national Assistive Priority Product List. Additionally, the officer will work to strengthen sustainable Assistive Technology markets by promoting local procurement and manufacturing, and will support the integration of AT into national health systems and service delivery platforms.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Policy, Health Systems Management, Rehabilitation Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field. A postgraduate qualification in public health, health systems, public policy, international development, or a related discipline is preferred. Additionally, a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in health systems strengthening, public health, disability inclusion, rehabilitation, assistive technology, market shaping, or health financing is required.
