Job Overview:
The Caseworker position is designed to assist vulnerable refugees, asylees, and other individuals eligible for support under the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). The primary responsibility of the Caseworker is to eliminate barriers to safety and wellness for these individuals. This role involves providing strengths-based, client-centered case management to newly arrived and/or vulnerable refugee individuals and families. The Caseworker will collaborate closely with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders to create tailored service plans that address the unique needs and preferences of each client. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of various medical, social, vocational, and other services available to clients, ensuring that all support provided aligns with client eligibility and program requirements. The Caseworker will also engage in community outreach to build a robust network of service providers that can effectively meet client needs, particularly in healthcare navigation and other essential services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Caseworker's responsibilities encompass a wide range of tasks, including but not limited to: determining client eligibility for case management programming, conducting intake assessments, and reviewing program expectations and confidentiality with potential clients. The Caseworker will develop individualized plans for clients enrolled in various programs, including SCM, OIRS, and Healthy Futures for Montana’s Refugee Children. They will support newly arrived refugee families in accessing case management services in accordance with PIR program guidelines. Additionally, the Caseworker will assist clients in navigating healthcare systems, particularly focusing on youth in Missoula, Flathead, and Lewis & Clark Counties. They will document services provided and evaluate client progress during active enrollment, adjusting plans as necessary to meet evolving client needs. The Caseworker will also conduct community outreach, maintain relationships with service providers, and provide clients with orientation on various topics, including youth health and transportation systems. In times of crisis, the Caseworker will respond to client needs with guidance from their supervisor and assist clients in requesting financial assistance when applicable. Maintaining accurate documentation in client case files is crucial, as is attending relevant trainings and meetings. The Caseworker may also train and lead volunteers and interns, promoting team engagement and adherence to IRC values.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Caseworker position should possess a Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, or a related field of study. A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in case management, customer service, or a people engagement role is required, with a preference for candidates who have worked with youth in previous roles. Strong relationship-building skills, diplomacy, and networking abilities are essential, as is the capacity to communicate effectively in a multicultural environment. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize and manage time effectively. Attention to detail and accuracy in work products are critical, as is fluency in English, both spoken and written. Proficiency in additional languages such as Pashto, Dari, Arabic, Swahili, or Spanish is preferred.
