Job Overview:
The Senior Strategic Partnerships Manager for Climate Finance will lead Mercy Corps' initiatives to secure grants and investments for climate-focused projects, particularly from the Green Climate Fund (GCF). This role is crucial as Mercy Corps aims to become GCF accredited by late 2026, necessitating the expansion of its funding pipeline and internal capacity for acquiring climate-focused investments. The position requires a candidate with extensive knowledge of GCF policies and practices, as well as strong networking and relationship-building skills. The successful candidate will collaborate with various teams, particularly the Climate Solutions team, to ensure the technical quality of proposals and develop strategies for influencing climate finance institutions.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as international development, environmental science, finance, or a related discipline is required. A master's degree is preferred and may enhance the candidate's qualifications for this role.
Experience:
Candidates should possess at least seven years of relevant work experience in climate finance, energy, or international development. Experience in making investment decisions or securing significant grants from climate finance institutions is essential. Familiarity with working in fragile or conflict-affected countries is also advantageous.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both in speaking and writing. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not required.
Additional Notes:
This position is remote, allowing for flexible location within the United States or other countries where Mercy Corps operates. The role may require travel to program countries and donor capitals, including potentially insecure locations. The organization promotes ongoing learning, allowing team members to dedicate 5% of their time to personal and professional development activities. - Establish internal communication structures and protocols to enhance representation and competitiveness.
- Conduct ongoing research on climate financing trends and priorities.
- Manage relationships with GCF representatives and serve as the primary donor liaison.
- Represent Mercy Corps at climate finance events and support country teams in building relationships with GCF regional teams.
- Develop a priority list of countries and programs for securing GCF funding and create joint action plans for pipeline development.
- Provide guidance on proposal development processes for GCF and other climate finance proposals.
- Track funding priorities and trends from GCF and other climate funders and disseminate relevant information to colleagues.
- Lead knowledge-sharing efforts to improve understanding of climate finance institutions.
Required Qualifications:
- Significant experience with the Green Climate Fund or organizations receiving GCF investments.
- Proven track record of securing grants or investments exceeding $10 million from GCF or similar organizations.
- At least seven years of practical experience in climate and energy or international development.
- Deep understanding of GCF financing mechanisms and priorities.
- Experience in external representation and network building.
- Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
