Job Overview: The Education Project Manager will be responsible for leading and coordinating the implementation of the System Capacity Grant in Yemen, which is part of UNESCO's broader efforts to enhance education systems in the region. This role involves working closely with the Ministry of Education and various stakeholders to ensure effective project execution. The incumbent will oversee project planning, implementation, and monitoring, ensuring that all activities align with UNESCO's strategic objectives. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to engage with multiple stakeholders to facilitate smooth project operations. The Education Project Manager will also contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives and support education in emergencies activities, thereby playing a vital role in improving educational outcomes in Yemen and the Gulf States.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Project Coordination and Implementation: Leading the planning and execution of project activities, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met, and collaborating with various stakeholders to facilitate smooth implementation.
Sector Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement: Supporting UNESCO's coordination efforts with the Local Education Group (LEG), Development Partners Group (DPG), and other education partners, while promoting effective communication and alignment among stakeholders.
Monitoring, Reporting, and Technical Follow-up: Monitoring project progress and preparing reports, maintaining records of activities, and providing technical inputs for planning and decision-making.
Internal Coordination and Programme Support: Ensuring consistency in program activities within UNESCO, reviewing project documents, and supporting administrative and logistical follow-up.
Support to Education in Emergencies and Knowledge Exchange: Contributing to EiE activities and knowledge-sharing initiatives, preparing materials for advocacy and consultations.
Missions and Other Duties: Undertaking missions as required, providing technical support during field activities, and performing additional tasks as assigned by the Director or Supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in International Development, Social Sciences, Education, Management, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in education programs, Education in Emergencies (EiE), sector coordination, or international development is required. At least 2 years of international or regional experience is also necessary, along with a proven track record in project coordination and engagement with Ministries of Education and development partners.
Educational Background: The position requires an advanced university degree, specifically a Master’s degree or equivalent, in fields such as International Development, Social Sciences, Education, Management, or related disciplines. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate possesses the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively manage education projects and coordinate with various stakeholders.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience, particularly in education programs and Education in Emergencies (EiE). This experience should include at least 2 years of international or regional professional exposure, demonstrating the ability to work in diverse cultural contexts. Familiarity with education initiatives in Arab countries and experience in project coordination and multi-stakeholder engagement are also critical for this role.
Languages: Excellent knowledge of English and Arabic is mandatory for this position, as effective communication in both languages is essential for engaging with stakeholders and reporting on project activities. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to work in a multicultural environment.
Additional Notes: The contract duration for this position is 12 months, and it is classified at the SC4 level. The role is open to external candidates, and the annual remuneration for the post is QAR 322,85
