Job Overview:
The Project Associate position is integral to the successful implementation of education sector activities in Yemen, particularly under the Yemen System Capacity Grant (SCG). The role involves providing technical and operational support to project implementation and coordination efforts. The Project Associate will focus on enhancing sector coordination, facilitating joint reviews, and ensuring effective monitoring and reporting processes. This position requires a proactive approach to stakeholder engagement and the ability to manage multiple project activities simultaneously. The incumbent will also be responsible for supporting the organization of meetings, consultations, and workshops, ensuring that all project activities align with the strategic goals of UNESCO and the needs of the education sector in Yemen.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Associate will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting Sector Coordination and Joint Reviews by coordinating with the Ministry of Education, Local Education Group (LEG), Development Partners Group (DPG), donors, and education partners. This includes organizing and documenting meetings, consultations, and workshops, as well as preparing agendas, minutes, and follow-up action lists.
  • Assisting with Sector Monitoring and Reporting by collecting and consolidating partner updates, maintaining project records, and supporting the use of monitoring tools.
  • Providing Project Coordination Support by managing day-to-day project activities, preparing technical inputs and reports, and facilitating communication with stakeholders.
  • Undertaking missions to support project activities, providing logistical support during field activities, and ensuring effective coordination during meetings and workshops.
  • Performing other administrative and operational tasks as required to ensure the smooth implementation of project activities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree (BA or equivalent) in Education, International Development, Public Policy, Social Sciences, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience is required. Strong coordination, communication, and organizational skills are essential, along with the ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders. Candidates should demonstrate strong drafting and reporting skills, as well as the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Analytical and problem-solving skills are also crucial for this role.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in a relevant field such as Education, International Development, Public Policy, or Social Sciences. This foundational knowledge is critical for understanding the complexities of education systems and the challenges faced in the context of Yemen's education sector.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience. This experience should ideally include work in education sector coordination, project management, or related fields, particularly in contexts similar to Yemen's educational landscape. Familiarity with UN agencies and experience in Education in Emergencies (EiE) projects are considered advantageous.

Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English and Arabic is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in both languages is essential for effective communication with stakeholders and for the preparation of reports and documentation. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not required.

Additional Notes:
The position is a Service Contract at Level SC3, with a contract duration of 12 months. The annual remuneration for the post is QAR 230,251, and UNESCO offers benefits including 30 days of annual leave, contributions to a pension scheme, and health insurance.
