Job Overview:
The Initial Resettlement Caseworker plays a crucial role in providing trauma-informed services to refugees and qualified immigrants, ensuring a positive resettlement experience and facilitating client self-sufficiency. This position requires close collaboration with clients, colleagues, and external partners to create tailored service and self-sufficiency plans that address individual client needs and preferences. The Caseworker will utilize a wide array of resources, including financial, medical, social, and vocational services, in alignment with client eligibility and program requirements. The role is essential in guiding clients through their resettlement journey, helping them navigate the complexities of their new environment, and ensuring they have access to necessary services and support.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Caseworker's responsibilities encompass a variety of tasks aimed at supporting clients throughout their resettlement process. Key duties include coordinating timely pre- and post-arrival services to ensure clients receive essential support such as airport pickup, housing, food, medical care, and transportation. The Caseworker will conduct intake assessments to identify client needs and develop individualized self-sufficiency plans with SMART goals. They will provide relevant services aligned with client goals, including direct financial assistance, public benefits applications, and referrals to medical and mental health services. Monitoring client progress, addressing challenges, and ensuring resource utilization are critical components of the role. The Caseworker will document client interactions, input data into systems like ETO, and collaborate with coworkers and partner organizations to enhance service delivery. Building relationships with local service providers is essential for client benefit, and the Caseworker may also train and lead volunteers and interns as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Initial Resettlement Caseworker position should possess a Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field, although relevant professional experience in the human services sector is also acceptable. A minimum of two years of experience is strongly preferred, particularly with refugee and immigrant populations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong relationship-building skills, diplomacy, and the ability to navigate a multi-cultural environment effectively. Proficiency in database systems such as IRIS and ETO is advantageous, along with excellent problem-solving abilities and time management skills. Attention to detail and accuracy in work output are essential, as is fluency in English, both spoken and written. Proficiency in languages spoken by IRC clients, such as Dari, Farsi, and/or Pashto, is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of social services and the specific needs of refugee and immigrant populations. Candidates with relevant experience in lieu of a degree may also be considered, emphasizing the importance of practical knowledge in the field.

Experience:
The position requires relevant professional experience in the human services field, with a minimum of two years strongly preferred. Languages:
Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is mandatory for this position. Additional Notes:
The Initial Resettlement Caseworker position is represented by the OPEIU union and is subject to the terms and conditions of a collective bargaining agreement. The working environment includes a combination of standard office settings, remote work, and field time within the service delivery area. The role may require occasional weekend and evening work. Compensation for this position is set at a pay rate of $23.49 per hour, with variations based on factors such as labor market conditions, job type, and individual candidate experience.
