Job Overview:
The Intensive Case Management (ICM) Caseworker plays a crucial role in addressing the barriers to safety and wellness faced by vulnerable populations, including refugees, asylees, and other ORR-eligible individuals. This position requires a strengths-based, client-centered approach to case management, focusing on single-headed refugee households, survivors of domestic violence, older refugees, youth without guardians, and individuals with mental health or physical challenges. The ICM Caseworker will collaborate with clients to develop personalized service plans that align with their unique needs and preferences, utilizing a wide array of resources and services. The role demands a proactive approach to client engagement, ensuring that each individual receives the necessary support to navigate complex systems and achieve their self-sufficiency goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The ICM Caseworker's responsibilities include determining client eligibility for ICM and SCM programming, conducting intake assessments, and reviewing program expectations with potential clients. They will develop individualized SMART self-sufficiency plans for enrolled clients and evaluate progress every six months, adjusting plans as necessary. The caseworker will assist clients in navigating healthcare and social service systems, including applying for benefits and scheduling appointments. Community outreach is essential, as the caseworker must maintain a robust network of service providers to meet client needs. Additionally, they will provide clients with orientation on various topics, respond to crises, assist with financial assistance requests, and ensure accurate documentation of services in the IRC database. The role may also involve training and leading volunteers and interns, along with other assigned duties.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, or a related field. A minimum of 1-2 years of case management experience with similar populations is required. Strong relationship-building skills, diplomacy, and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment are essential. Candidates should be self-starters with excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to manage time effectively. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and a valid driver’s license with access to a personal, insured vehicle are also necessary.
Educational Background:
The preferred educational background for this position is a Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, or a related field of study. This educational foundation equips candidates with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively support vulnerable populations and navigate the complexities of case management.
Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant case management experience, particularly with populations similar to those served by the IRC. This experience is crucial for understanding the unique challenges faced by refugees and asylees and for effectively implementing case management strategies that promote client self-sufficiency.
Languages:
Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is mandatory for this position. Additionally, proficiency in languages spoken by the client group, such as Dari or Pashto, is preferred, as it enhances communication and support for clients from diverse backgrounds.
Additional Notes:
This position is represented by the OPEIU union and is subject to the terms of a collective bargaining agreement. The working environment includes a combination of standard office settings, remote work, and fieldwork within the service delivery area. Occasional weekend and evening work may be required. The IRC offers a comprehensive benefits package for U.S. employees, including sick time, retirement savings plans, paid holidays, paid time off, and various insurance options.
