Job Overview:
The Senior Accountant position at FHI 360 is primarily focused on supporting the STRengthening Infectious disease DEtection Systems (STRIDES) project, which is a flagship initiative of the United States Government aimed at enhancing global health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security. The role is based in Bogotá, Colombia, and involves ensuring that all accounting transactions and financial records are accurate, complete, and compliant with local regulations. The Senior Accountant will oversee monthly and year-end closing processes, maintain the general ledger, conduct analysis" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">financial analysis, and prepare statutory and management reports. This position also requires the individual to act as a liaison between the local finance team and corporate headquarters, ensuring that financial information adheres to both Colombian standards and organizational policies. The role encompasses budgeting, forecasting, monitoring grant expenditures, identifying accounting risks, and implementing process improvements to enhance financial integrity and operational efficiency within the STRIDES program.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for applying accounting principles to a range of fiscal functions, providing support for field programs, and ensuring compliance with local tax regulations. Key responsibilities include maintaining the company’s legal and statutory registration status in Colombia, preparing and submitting tax returns, reviewing monthly financial reports, and assisting with internal and external audit requests. The role may also involve account reconciliation, financial analysis projects, and the development of control systems for cost distribution. The Senior Accountant will ensure the daily operations of accounting systems are maintained, develop non-standard reports, and respond to management requests related to audit and fiscal procedures. Additional duties may include training staff on financial systems and processes, and making recommendations for improvements in accounting practices.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess in-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and have the ability to identify and address problems related to management needs and auditing procedures. The role requires strong analytical skills to research and implement new accounting systems and reporting methodologies. The Senior Accountant should be able to convey complex financial information clearly and concisely, and may need to negotiate with senior management or external entities regarding financial issues.
Educational Background:
A Bachelor's Degree or its international equivalent in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding complex accounting principles and practices.
Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a public accounting firm or a large company. Substantial experience with computerized information systems is also essential, as the role involves the use of various accounting software and tools to manage financial data effectively.
Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory due to the local context of the job, and proficiency in English is highly desirable. This bilingual capability is crucial for effective communication with both local and international teams.

This position is a full-time role based in Bogotá, Colombia, with less than 10% travel required. The expected salary range for this position is COP 93,000,000 - 110,000,000 annually for local hires.
