Job Overview: The Operations Senior Assistant - Risk Education will serve as a key player in the Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) initiatives within UNMAS Syria. This role is crucial for ensuring that EORE activities are coherent, standardized, and quality-assured across all implementing partners and stakeholders. The incumbent will support the UNMAS Syria, the Syrian National Mine Action Centre (SNMAC), UN agencies, NGOs, and other partners to implement EORE activities in accordance with International Mine Action Standards (IMAS), National Mine Action Standards (NMAS), and UNMAS guidance. The position involves strengthening coordination, quality management, monitoring and evaluation, capacity development, and integrating EORE into broader humanitarian and national systems, while also measuring operational impact and behavioral outcomes. The role requires a proactive approach to managing EORE delivery, from design to impact measurement, ensuring that all activities align with established standards and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will assist with the management of EORE delivery, which includes providing administrative and logistical support for EORE activities, preparing and presenting EORE programs, planning and designing training packages, and delivering EORE sessions to humanitarian personnel. Responsibilities also include developing training management packages, monitoring and evaluating EORE tools and techniques, maintaining records of EORE activities, and preparing reports and statistics. The assistant will also support quality management by identifying community needs, assisting in the accreditation of EORE capacities, implementing monitoring activities, and evaluating the activities of UNMAS implementing partners. Coordination with partners and authorities for EORE and victim assistance monitoring is also a key responsibility. Additional tasks may include preparing task files, managing RE materials, documenting activities, and performing miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess secondary education (high school or equivalent) with at least five years of relevant work experience, or a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in any field of study, along with a minimum of one year of relevant work experience. Experience in delivering EORE with a recognized organization is essential, as is experience in training delivery, knowledge of computers and MS Office, and skills in drafting and report writing. Desired qualifications include experience in multicultural environments or UN system organizations in developing countries, as well as experience in community-based education and public information campaigns.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for this position include either a secondary education (high school or equivalent) with a minimum of five years of relevant work experience or a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in any field of study, accompanied by at least one year of relevant work experience. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of the role and the context in which it operates.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have relevant experience in delivering Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) with a recognized organization, as well as experience in training delivery. Candidates should also have a solid understanding of computer applications and proficiency in MS Office or similar software. Experience in drafting reports and writing is necessary, along with a preference for candidates who have worked in multicultural environments or within UN system organizations in developing countries. Experience in community-based education and public information campaigns is also desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English and Arabic is mandatory for this position. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in both languages to effectively communicate and engage with diverse stakeholders involved in EORE activities. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
Additional Notes: The contract for this position is an Individual Contractor Agreement (ICA) at the LICA 5 level, with a duration of 12 months.
