Job Overview:
The Program Officer position is situated within the Climate Change and Food Security Unit of WIPO, specifically under the WIPO GREEN initiative. This role is pivotal in driving the implementation and scaling of acceleration projects that aim to translate technology matches into tangible deployment outcomes, investment opportunities, and measurable socio-economic impacts. The incumbent will work closely with the Head of Climate Change and Food Security, engaging with various stakeholders including UN organizations, private sector entities, and civil society to foster strategic partnerships and financing solutions that align with WIPO's mission to leverage intellectual property and innovation to tackle pressing global challenges.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be responsible for a range of duties including: 1) Project Development and Partnership Management: Designing and coordinating WIPO GREEN Acceleration Projects, managing partnerships with governments and private sector entities, and ensuring compliance with organizational standards. 2) Portfolio Performance and Impact Management: Monitoring and assessing the performance of the Acceleration Project portfolio, defining key performance indicators (KPIs), and contributing to portfolio-level analysis and reporting. 3) WIPO GREEN Ecosystem Integration and Scaling Support: Supporting the integration of WIPO GREEN assets into project delivery and contributing to the development of scalable programmatic approaches. 4) Knowledge Management and Communications: Producing analytical inputs and high-quality communications content to enhance the visibility of WIPO GREEN's activities. 5) Performing other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a first-level university degree in relevant fields such as environmental sciences, climate change, or international relations. An advanced degree and certification in Project Management are desirable. Essential qualifications include at least six years of relevant professional experience in global environmental issues, demonstrated experience in managing international projects, and excellent knowledge of climate change and food security.
Educational Background:
A first-level university degree in environmental or biological sciences, climate change, natural resource management, agricultural or food systems, development studies, international relations, or a related field is essential. An advanced university degree in a relevant field and certification in Project Management are considered desirable qualifications.
Experience:
The position requires at least six years of relevant professional experience in areas related to climate change, food security, and green technologies, particularly in developing country contexts. Experience in managing international or multi-stakeholder projects, including partnerships and funding, is essential. Desirable experience includes working with financial institutions and in international organizations.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English is mandatory. Good knowledge of another UN official language, particularly Chinese or French, is considered an asset.
Additional Notes:
The position offers a total annual salary of approximately $118,431, which includes a net annual salary and a post adjustment. Temporary appointments are renewable, subject to budget availability and satisfactory performance, with a maximum cumulative length of two years.
