Job Overview:
The Business Development Manager (BDM) plays a crucial role in supporting emergency response activities within the Chad mission of Plan International. This position is designed to develop a comprehensive funding strategy aligned with the Emergency Response Plan, particularly in response to the influx of Sudanese refugees and the needs of host communities in Chad. The BDM will coordinate proposal development, ensuring that proposals reflect the strengths and capabilities of the country response while integrating inputs from various departments such as technical advisors, finance, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security. The role requires staying informed about donor strategies and interests relevant to humanitarian efforts, as well as liaising with the Global Humanitarian Team and other stakeholders to identify funding opportunities. The BDM is expected to lead the development of an emergency-specific fundraising strategy, ensuring alignment with donor priorities and program needs, while maintaining a strong focus on gender and diversity in all fundraising activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The BDM will be responsible for leading the overall planning and implementation of funding activities for emergency responses, developing strong donor proposals with a focus on gender and diversity, and ensuring financial sustainability by collaborating with finance departments. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, producing comprehensive donor opportunity mappings, tracking funding opportunities and submission deadlines, coordinating proposal development, ensuring compliance with donor requirements, and embedding safeguarding policies in all activities. The BDM will also be responsible for training project teams on donor requirements, maintaining a reporting calendar, and ensuring adherence to Plan's Emergency Response Manual and localization position paper.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess extensive experience in writing successful donor proposals and have a strong background in humanitarian fundraising and networking. They should have experience in coordinating proposals with meaningful participation from implementing partners and managing consortium bids. A deep understanding of donor funding requirements and policies, as well as knowledge of key humanitarian principles, is essential. Candidates should also demonstrate strong planning, organizational, analytical, and communication skills, along with the ability to train and develop others.
Educational Background:
A relevant degree in international development, humanitarian studies, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in fundraising, project management, or humanitarian response are advantageous. Candidates should have a solid understanding of the humanitarian sector and the challenges faced in emergency response contexts.
Experience:
The position requires extensive experience in humanitarian fundraising, proposal writing, and project cycle management. Candidates should have a proven track record of successful fundraising efforts and experience working in emergency response settings. Experience in managing teams and providing on-the-job training is also essential, as is the ability to deploy at short notice to program locations.
Languages:
Fluency in both French and English is mandatory, with Arabic being a desirable additional language. Strong communication skills in these languages are essential for effective collaboration with stakeholders and partners.
Additional Notes:
This position is based in any country within the West Africa region, with a focus on Chad. The successful candidate will be required to travel to N’Djamena and eastern Chad, where Plan International has operational offices. The role may involve up to 50% travel, and the candidate will be compensated with a mission allowance and per diems according to local rates. The position is expected to start as soon as possible and may involve working under a local employment contract.
