Job Overview:
The Environmental Affairs Officer will play a crucial role in the Environment and Forests Division of UNECE, focusing on industrial safety and environmental protection. This includes interpreting trends and patterns in industrial safety policies and drafting technical papers and analytical studies. Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the Environmental Affairs Officer include developing analyses on industrial safety, interpreting data trends, drafting technical papers, and preparing documentation for intergovernmental meetings. The officer will attend international and regional meetings to gather information and engage with colleagues from other institutions. Responsibilities also include organizing expert group meetings, seminars, and training sessions, as well as preparing speeches and presentations for senior staff. Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in environmental management, engineering, natural or social sciences, legal affairs, international relations, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in environmental or legal issues is required. Candidates should have experience with multilateral environmental agreements and servicing intergovernmental bodies. Experience in industrial safety and the prevention of accidental water pollution is essential. Familiarity with the UN common system or similar international organizations is desirable, as is experience in legislation review and analysis. Additionally, two or more years of experience in data analytics or a related area is preferred.

Languages:
English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. French is also a working language, and proficiency in both languages is advantageous. Candidates should refer to the UN Language Framework for specific language skill requirements.
