Job Overview: The Senior Project Coordinator will play a pivotal role in the IRC's health team, specifically overseeing a vaccination project aimed at improving vaccination coverage and reducing the number of unvaccinated children to zero in Chad. This position entails strategic and operational management of the project funded by a private donor, with a focus on implementing cost-effective interventions. The coordinator will supervise a small team and manage all aspects of the project, ensuring high-quality technical approaches, effective implementation, and strong partnerships with donors and stakeholders. Reporting to the Deputy Programme Director, the Senior Project Coordinator will work closely with various technical coordinators and health teams, ensuring alignment with the IRC's broader health portfolio and strategy for West and Central Africa.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Project Coordinator will be responsible for a comprehensive set of duties, including:
Project Management: Provide strategic management of all aspects of the vaccination project, ensuring that the project team has the necessary tools and support for effective implementation. Oversee planning, design, and monitoring of project progress, resolving issues with field teams as needed. Ensure financial management consistency and support the team in producing high-quality reports for donors.
Technical Quality and Learning: Supervise the MEAL Manager to ensure rigorous monitoring of the project, including coverage surveys and regular monitoring systems. Support the implementation of immunization services by supervising the Immunization Manager and ensuring effective operational implementation.
Strategic Communication and Project Leadership: Represent the IRC at high-level forums, respond to donor requests, and contribute to learning efforts on innovative vaccination approaches in humanitarian contexts.
Key Working Relationships: Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including donors and government bodies, to ensure project success and alignment with broader health strategies.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree (5 years of higher education) in public health, epidemiology, or a relevant field. They should have at least 10 years of experience in progressively responsible roles within health programs, particularly in immunization programs. Strong project management skills are essential, including budget management, report production, risk mitigation, and resource optimization. Proven experience in managing multinational health projects funded by donors and in demand-driven health interventions is required. Additional experience in conditional cash transfer and nutrition programs is highly desirable, along with experience in fragile and conflict-affected settings.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in public health, epidemiology, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of health programs and the specific challenges faced in immunization initiatives, particularly in crisis-affected areas.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 10 years of experience in health programs, with a significant focus on immunization initiatives. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing health projects, particularly in challenging environments. Experience in donor engagement, compliance, and reporting is also essential, along with the ability to lead diverse teams effectively.
Languages: Fluency in English and French is mandatory, with excellent spoken and written communication skills in both languages. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in the context of working with diverse communities in Chad.
Additional Notes: This position is remote, allowing for flexibility in work location. The role may require travel up to 30% of the time, often with short notice.
