Job Overview: The Group Chief Economist will lead the Economics Department at the EIB, setting the economic vision that guides the Group's strategic direction. This role involves conducting high-level economic analysis to inform decision-making and contribute to investment policies. Duties and Responsibilities:
Define and steer the EIB Group’s economic work programme, ensuring alignment with business priorities and EU policy objectives.
Provide authoritative economic analysis on investments made by the EIB Group.
Ensure high-quality economic inputs into strategic documents and flagship products.
Serve as a trusted adviser to senior management on economic developments and policy priorities.
Act as the lead economic spokesperson for the EIB Group at conferences and policy dialogues.
Develop and maintain a strong network with European institutions and relevant policy fora.
Lead and develop a diverse team of economists, promoting a culture of impact and collaboration.
Manage resources effectively to ensure efficient delivery of the department's objectives.
Participate in governing bodies and engage with senior management and external counterparts.
Required Qualifications:
A university degree equivalent to a Master’s, preferably in economics, with an ideal PhD.
Minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience, including leadership roles in economic departments within government, international institutions, or multilateral development banks.
Proven track record as a thought leader with a strong publication record and impactful analytical work.
Experience in managing and coaching staff in multicultural environments.
Strong understanding of the EU policy ecosystem and investment policy agenda.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior policymakers and stakeholders.
Educational Background: Candidates should possess a university degree at least equivalent to a Master’s level, ideally complemented by a PhD in economics or a related field. This educational background is essential to ensure a deep understanding of economic principles and the ability to conduct high-level analysis.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience, with at least 10 years in managerial roles. Candidates should have experience leading economic departments in various settings, including government, international institutions, or multilateral development banks.
