Job Overview:

This role involves monitoring services provided by contracted external organizations to ensure that operations are cost-effective and objectives are met. The Logistics Officer will contribute to the development of logistics plans and processes, ensuring compliance with WFP standards and policies. The position requires a proactive approach to managing logistics projects and operational activities, which directly support the effective delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries. The officer will also be responsible for collecting and analyzing data to recommend improvements to local logistics operations, conducting financial analyses, and managing operational aspects of the supply chain, including procurement and shipping. The role emphasizes collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders to enhance the efficiency of logistics operations and ensure timely responses to emergencies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Logistics Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: developing logistics plans and processes in compliance with WFP policies; managing logistics projects and operational activities; collecting and analyzing data to improve local logistics performance; conducting financial analyses and budget reviews; preparing operational pipeline planning; managing supply chain operations including procurement and customs clearance; providing technical support to other units; supervising junior staff; preparing accurate reports including Key Performance Indicators; supporting capacity building for WFP staff and partners; establishing productive relationships with logistics colleagues; participating in emergency logistics preparedness; and continuously reviewing internal processes to enhance efficiency. The officer may also be required to act in an emergency response capacity as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Transport Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Management, Mathematics, or a related field. Alternatively, a first university degree with additional years of relevant work experience is acceptable. Professional certification in Supply Chain Management is considered an advantage. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of logistics operations and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders are essential.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for the Logistics Officer position include an advanced university degree in a relevant field such as Transport Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Management, or Mathematics. A first university degree combined with additional years of related work experience may also be considered. Candidates with professional certifications in Supply Chain Management will have an added advantage, showcasing their commitment to the field and enhancing their qualifications for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of post-graduate relevant professional or managerial experience for candidates with a Master’s degree, or five years for those with a Bachelor’s degree. Experience in the supply chain-related industry, logistics, shipping, or procurement is essential. Candidates should have a proven track record in monitoring and reporting on transport and freight market conditions, dealing with customs officials for shipments, and coordinating procurement and transportation processes. Experience in warehouse and commodity management, as well as familiarity with corporate systems and databases, is also required.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with a proficiency level of C. Additionally, candidates should be fluent in the local language of the duty station, if different from English. This bilingual capability is crucial for effective communication and collaboration within the logistics team and with local stakeholders.
