Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer - Youth Advisor will work under the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist - Youth Advisor. This role involves supporting outreach to youth and adolescent constituencies, implementing youth programs, and developing knowledge products. The volunteer will contribute to strategies that promote the integrated participation of young people in multistakeholder and intergovernmental processes. Additionally, the volunteer will assist in organizing meetings and activities with girl-led groups, strengthen networks among young people, and support the development of briefing notes and safeguarding plans. The position is crucial for advancing UN Women's agenda on gender equality and youth empowerment, particularly in the context of the Beijing+30 Action Agenda, which emphasizes the importance of civil society organizations and the role of young people in achieving gender equality.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the UN Volunteer - Youth Advisor include:
  • Supporting outreach efforts to engage youth and adolescent constituencies effectively.
  • Assisting in the technical implementation of programs aimed at young people and developing relevant knowledge products.
  • Contributing to strategies that facilitate the integrated participation of young people in multistakeholder processes and intergovernmental discussions.
  • Organizing preparatory brainstorming sessions and outreach meetings with girl-led groups and constituencies.
  • Strengthening networks and promoting knowledge sharing among young people to enhance communication within constituencies.
  • Developing briefing and background notes for the Civil Society Division.
  • Supporting the implementation of safeguarding plans for youth and adolescents.
  • Engaging in activities that promote volunteerism and reflect on the quality of voluntary actions undertaken.
  • Contributing articles and write-ups for UNV publications and assisting with the UNV Buddy Programme for new volunteers. 1
  • Promoting the use of online volunteering services among local groups and individuals.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the UN Volunteer - Youth Advisor position should possess strong communication skills, a commitment to gender equality, and an understanding of youth issues. They should demonstrate creativity in problem-solving and the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. A background in social sciences, international relations, or a related field is preferred. Additionally, candidates should exhibit sensitivity to gender issues and a commitment to inclusive collaboration.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is essential for this position. Candidates should ideally hold a degree in social sciences, international relations, gender studies, or a related field. Experience:

Languages:

Additional Notes:
The contract for this position is for a specified duration with the possibility of extension based on funding availability and performance. The UN Volunteer will receive a Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) to cover basic needs, which is adjusted according to the cost of living in Kenya. The VLA is calculated using a base rate and a Post-Adjustment Multiplier (PAM). Volunteers in hardship duty stations may receive additional benefits, including a Well-Being Differential. The position includes life, health, and disability insurance, as well as travel allowances for official duties. A settling-in grant is provided for volunteers relocating to the duty station, and a resettlement allowance is available upon satisfactory completion of the assignment.
