Job Overview:
The position of National Consultant in the field of geographic information systems (GIS) applied in biodiversity management is crucial for enhancing the understanding and management of biodiversity in Turkmenistan. The consultant will be responsible for utilizing GIS technology to analyze spatial data related to biodiversity, which will aid in decision-making processes for conservation and sustainable management of natural resources. The role requires a deep understanding of GIS applications in environmental contexts, particularly in biodiversity management, and the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights. The assignment is set to take place from June 2026 to September 2026, during which the consultant will be expected to deliver high-quality outputs that meet the objectives outlined in the project.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The National Consultant will have a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Conducting spatial analysis using GIS tools to assess biodiversity patterns and trends in Turkmenistan.
  • Collaborating with local and national stakeholders to gather relevant data and information necessary for GIS analysis.
  • Developing maps and visual representations of biodiversity data to support conservation planning and policy-making.
  • Providing technical expertise in GIS methodologies and best practices to enhance the capacity of local institutions.
  • Preparing detailed reports and presentations that summarize findings and recommendations based on GIS analyses.
  • Engaging in stakeholder consultations to ensure that the GIS outputs are relevant and useful for biodiversity management efforts.
  • Contributing to the development of training materials and conducting workshops to build local capacity in GIS applications for biodiversity management.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in geographic information systems, with specific experience in biodiversity management. A proven track record of working with GIS software and tools is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, and excellent communication skills. Familiarity with national and international biodiversity policies and frameworks will be considered an asset. The consultant should also have a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work independently while meeting deadlines.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in geography, environmental science, ecology, or a related field is required. Experience:
Candidates should have at least 3-5 years of professional experience in the field of geographic information systems, particularly in applications related to biodiversity or environmental management. Proven experience in conducting spatial analyses and producing high-quality GIS outputs is essential for this position.

Languages:
