Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position at ESCAP is designed to provide interns with hands-on experience in the field of sustainable development, particularly in relation to the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD). Interns will work full-time, five days a week, under the supervision of a Sustainable Development Officer, gaining insights into the operations of the Sustainable Development and Countries in Special Situations Section (SDCSS). The role involves assisting with event organization, stakeholder engagement, and communications, contributing to the overall mission of ESCAP to promote sustainable development in the region. Interns will have the opportunity to engage with various stakeholders, including civil society organizations, youth representatives, and government officials, while also developing skills in logistics, research, and knowledge management.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the work of the SDCSS. Key duties include providing logistical and coordination support for meetings and events, particularly for the APFSD. This involves assisting with registration, preparing presentations, and managing tasks related to intergovernmental meetings. Interns will also engage with online communities, support stakeholder outreach, and assist in the delivery and documentation of training and capacity development initiatives. In terms of communications, interns will design multimedia outreach materials, maintain websites, and perform tasks related to public information and digital outreach. Additionally, interns will conduct research, analyze data, and synthesize information into reports and presentations, contributing to the substantive work of ESCAP in support of the 2030 Agenda.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for the internship, applicants must be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level), or have graduated with a university degree and be able to commence the internship within a year of graduation. No prior professional work experience is required, making this position accessible to students and recent graduates who are eager to gain experience in international organizations and sustainable development.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a background in fields related to sustainable development, international relations, public policy, or other relevant disciplines. The internship is particularly suited for those pursuing or holding degrees in social sciences, environmental studies, or related areas, as these fields align closely with the work of ESCAP and the objectives of the internship.
Experience: While no professional work experience is required, candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in sustainable development and familiarity with the challenges faced in the Asia-Pacific region. Experience in academic projects, volunteer work, or internships related to international organizations or sustainable development will be considered an asset, but is not mandatory.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.
