Job Overview: The Data Coordinator position at IDMC involves implementing methodologies for monitoring internal displacement related to conflict and disaster in the assigned sub-region, which in this case is East & Southeast Asia. Duties and Responsibilities: The Data Coordinator will have a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: monitoring and analyzing internal displacement caused by conflict, violence, and disasters in East & Southeast Asia; uploading data on internal displacement into the IDMC database with a focus on frequency, consistency, and accuracy; contributing to the analysis of displacement trends in the sub-region; assisting in the technical development of IDMC’s monitoring tools; maintaining and expanding IDMC’s network of partners; supporting efforts to enhance partners’ capacities for monitoring and analyzing internal displacement; and providing support for institutional projects as needed. The role requires a proactive approach to data management and collaboration with various stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Data Coordinator position should possess a strong attention to detail and a collaborative mindset, with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in research, data collection, and quantitative data analysis. Demonstrated experience working with databases and information management systems is essential. A solid understanding of the East & Southeast Asia sub-region and operational experience related to conflict or disaster displacement is also required. Additionally, candidates should have experience in processing, reviewing, and uploading large datasets, as well as strong analytical skills to produce concise analytical products. Educational Background: A Master’s degree in international affairs, social sciences, displacement, migration, humanitarian or development studies, information science, statistics, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background will provide the necessary theoretical foundation and analytical skills needed to effectively monitor and analyze internal displacement.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have at least 3-5 years of relevant experience in research, data collection, and quantitative data analysis. This experience should include demonstrated proficiency in working with databases and information management systems, as well as a solid understanding of the operational challenges related to internal displacement in the context of conflict and disasters.
Languages: Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of Hindi, Urdu, or other relevant languages is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate and collaborate effectively in the sub-region.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Bangkok, Thailand, and is offered as a national contract for a duration of 12 months, with the possibility of extension depending on funding availability. The role may require frequent travel (up to 30%) within the region. The salary and benefits will be determined according to NRC Thailand's national salary scale and terms and conditions.
