Job Overview:
The position of Origin Graduate in the Visual Impact and Exhibition (VIE) section at CERN is designed for individuals who are passionate about making science accessible and educational through exhibitions. The role is situated within the Education, Communications and Outreach (ECO) group, specifically in the Stakeholders Relations (SR) sector. The VIE section manages a wide array of exhibitions, including permanent installations and event-based exhibitions. The primary focus of this role is to develop interactive media that enhances visitor awareness of CERN's various functions and contributions to science. The successful candidate will work closely with the Interactive Media Manager to create engaging content for CERN's exhibitions, particularly at the Science Gateway, and will be involved in the entire process from conception to production and evaluation of exhibits. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the educational mission of CERN while working in a dynamic international environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
As a member of the Visual Impact and Exhibition team, the Origin Graduate will be responsible for several key tasks:
  • Collaborate with the Interactive Media Manager to support the development and delivery of exhibitions at CERN.
  • Create innovative and engaging content for on-site exhibitions, ensuring that it is accessible to a broad audience.
  • Participate in the conception, prototyping, testing, and production of exhibits, ensuring they meet the educational goals of the organization.
  • Engage with relevant audience groups to evaluate exhibit content and make necessary adjustments based on feedback.
  • Work as part of a team to brainstorm and implement new ideas for exhibitions that align with CERN's mission and values.
  • Stay updated on the latest trends in interactive media and educational practices to continually enhance the visitor experience.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the following qualifications to be considered for the position:
  • A maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Computer Science or a related field.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • A strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
  • Experience in developing interactive applications for scientific visualization and education is advantageous.
  • Proven ability to produce engaging content for non-specialist audiences on topics related to physics, astronomy, and related technologies.
  • Knowledge of systems administration and web development is essential, with full-stack development skills being a plus.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English or French, with a willingness to learn the other language.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field. Candidates must have graduated within the last two years to be eligible for the role. It is important to note that applicants without a university degree will not be considered, and those holding a PhD are also ineligible for this position.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation. This experience should ideally be in fields related to computer science, interactive media, or educational content development. The role is designed for recent graduates who are looking to start their careers in a dynamic and innovative environment.

Languages:

Additional Notes:
The contract duration for this position is 24 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months. The job is fully onsite, and the target start date is set for September 1, 202
  • The position offers a monthly stipend ranging from 5,266 to 5,793 Swiss Francs, which is tax-free and dependent on the candidate's degree. Additional benefits include 30 days of paid leave per year, comprehensive health insurance coverage for the employee and their family, and a relocation package that may include installation grants and travel expenses. On-the-job training and formal training opportunities, including language classes, are also provided.
