Through its interventions, SI implements expertise in access to drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion, as well as in security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security and livelihoods. SI operates in 26 countries with a total of 3,200 staff members, including expatriates, national employees, headquarters staff, and a few volunteers, all working with professionalism and respect for local cultures.
Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is aimed at supporting the Atlantic Zone Program Assistant under the supervision of the Zone Coordinator and program referents (EHA, Community Mobilization, etc.) within the France Operations. The intern will collaborate with logistics teams, EHA, and Community Mobilization. The mission of SI in France, which began in March 2020, focuses on improving living conditions for highly vulnerable populations who are not connected to primary services such as drinking water and sanitation, making them particularly susceptible to various risks. The projects target individuals living in degraded habitats such as slums, camps, or squats, who have very limited and often informal access to these essential services. The intern will participate in programmatic monitoring and reporting, assist in technical design and field interventions with program managers, and contribute to the overall mission of improving access to basic services for vulnerable populations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The main responsibilities of the intern include:
Project Relevance, Quality, and Design: Participate in evaluation missions and technical diagnostics, and assist in writing reports under the supervision of the Atlantic Zone Coordinator and program managers. Support the coordinators and program managers in the technical design of activities.
Monitoring and Operational Follow-up: Update various programmatic management and monitoring tools (including installation tracking and project indicators) under the supervision of the zone coordinator. Assist program managers and the coordinating referent in operational implementations (installations, maintenance, distributions, etc.). Facilitate relationships with technical providers and volunteers involved in activities (presentation of activities, technical solutions). Support program managers in hygiene kit distribution and hygiene promotion activities.
Capitalization: Participate in the centralization and dissemination of procedures, guides, and tools related to activities in France. Contribute to the capitalization of methods and techniques of intervention and experiences gained by SI and other actors for activities (technical sanitation solutions, grey water management, etc.). Assist in drafting projects and donor reports under the supervision of the zone coordinator. Participate in the archiving of administrative and programmatic documents. Help create and improve tools (technical, MEAL, etc.).
Human Resources: Occasionally, when missions require, participate in the search for volunteers (identification and selection), briefing and support; manage administrative tasks for volunteers (meal tickets, signing charters and volunteer documents); plan volunteer HR and coordinate during interventions in support of the person in charge of the intervention. Participate at the end of the contract in the recruitment of the replacement intern (review job description, publication, CV pre-selection using an analysis grid, participation in interviews, and handover).
Required Qualifications: Candidates should have studies in development, water and sanitation, project management, environmental health, political science, or a scientific profile that may also be suitable. Knowledge of Water, Hygiene, and Sanitation (WASH) and/or familiarity with the humanitarian sector is an asset. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and GIS software (Earth, QGIS) is required. Strong analytical and writing skills, good synthesis ability, proactivity, critical thinking, organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure are essential. Candidates should demonstrate commitment to the principles and work of SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL and possess a valid driving license (B).
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes studies in fields related to development, water and sanitation, project management, environmental health, or political science. A scientific background may also be considered relevant for this internship role.
Experience: The position is intended for interns, so prior professional experience is not strictly required. However, any relevant experience in development, humanitarian work, or related fields will be considered an advantage. The intern should be willing to learn and adapt to the working environment of SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory for this position, given the local context and the need to communicate effectively with beneficiaries and team members. Proficiency in English is also desirable, as it may be beneficial for reporting and communication with international teams.
Additional Notes: This internship is based at the SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL office in Nantes, with occasional field trips to Angers. The contract duration is 6 months, contingent upon student status (internship). The legal compensation is set at 15% of the hourly social security ceiling in effect, calculated pro-rata based on actual hours worked in the month (approximately 154 hours per month, equating to 22 days of 7 hours each). The organization covers 60% of meal tickets and 50% of transportation costs. Interested candidates should submit their CV and cover letter, as applications containing only a CV will not be considered. SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL reserves the right to close the recruitment process before the application deadline.
