Job Overview: The Young Women and Girls Engagement Consultant will play a crucial role in ensuring that young women and girls are actively engaged in intergovernmental processes and that their voices are heard in discussions related to gender equality. This position requires providing strategic guidance and advice on outreach to adolescent constituencies, ensuring that young people's leadership is integrated into the work of the Civil Society Division (CSD). The consultant will support the technical implementation of programs aimed at young people, facilitate brainstorming sessions with girl-led groups, and contribute to the development of strategic notes and resource mobilization proposals. The role also involves knowledge management, where the consultant will develop knowledge products that highlight findings, success stories, and best practices related to adolescent girls' engagement in intergovernmental processes. The consultant will work closely with the Youth Engagement Coordinator to monitor activities and identify best practices, as well as support advocacy and resource mobilization efforts for youth and adolescent work.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide strategic guidance and advice on outreach to adolescent constituencies to ensure meaningful engagement of young women and girls in intergovernmental processes.
Support the technical implementation of young people's programs, ensuring synergies with other teams and developing knowledge products.
Contribute to strategies for integrated participation of young people in multistakeholder and intergovernmental processes.
Facilitate preparatory meetings and activities with girl-led groups and constituencies.
Provide inputs into the implementation of the Civil Society Division Strategic Notes and resource mobilization proposals.
Strengthen networks and knowledge sharing among young people to enhance communication between constituencies.
Develop briefing and background notes across the Civil Society Division.
Support the development of the youth and adolescent safeguarding policy.
Develop knowledge products on findings, success stories, and best practices related to adolescent girls in intergovernmental processes. 1
Monitor youth planned activities to identify best practices and address implementation bottlenecks. 1
Support the preparation of quarterly and donor reports focusing on results and outcomes related to adolescent engagement. 1
Compile and synthesize background material for advocacy and resource mobilization efforts. 1
Maintain databases on potential and actual donors supporting youth and adolescents. 1
Provide data for project document preparation and support proposal writing for the Civil Society Division.
Required Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of gender equality and women's rights issues.
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with partners, especially women’s rights organizations and youth organizations.
Proven networking skills and ability to mobilize support for UN Women.
Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in databases and office software.
Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
Educational Background: A master’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, international relations, communications, women's studies, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: At least two years of experience in research and civil society engagement, particularly focusing on young people. Understanding of gender equality and women's empowerment is essential. Familiarity with child protection issues and the Convention on the Rights of the Child is an asset. Experience with youth and girl-led organizations and international institutions is preferred. Previous work or internship experience within the UN system is also an asset.
Languages: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French, Spanish, or any other UN official language is considered an asset.
