Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Software Engineer include: contributing to the development and evolution of the JCOP Framework used by LHC experiments; implementing and maintaining software components, templates, and tools based on WinCC OA and CERN control frameworks; integrating devices into supervisory control systems; designing and developing user interfaces with WinCC OA; prototyping and testing new solutions to improve the reliability, maintainability, and scalability of the frameworks; assisting LHC experiments in the development, deployment, and maintenance of their control systems; and participating in code reviews, debugging, and troubleshooting of control system applications.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have a professional background in Software Engineering or a related field. They should possess experience or exposure to software development in distributed or modular systems, and familiarity with modern programming languages and development tools, such as C/C++. Knowledge of software engineering principles, including version control (GIT), testing, code quality, documentation, and CI/CD, is essential. Familiarity with industrial control systems, SCADA technologies, or CERN experiment online systems is advantageous. Proficiency in C/C++ programming is required, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly, and good communication and documentation skills.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes either a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience. Candidates must also be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and should not have previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract.
Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a professional background in software engineering, with specific experience in software development for distributed or modular systems.
