Job Overview: The Driver position at UNHCR involves not only driving official vehicles but also ensuring the maintenance and upkeep of these vehicles according to the organization's technical guidance and specifications. Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver will be tasked with the following duties:
Drive UNHCR vehicles for the transport of authorized passengers and deliver and collect documents and other items as required.
Meet official personnel at airports or other locations and facilitate immigration and customs formalities.
Perform daily maintenance checks on assigned vehicles, including oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires, ensuring vehicles are roadworthy.
Conduct minor repairs and arrange for major repairs as needed, while keeping the vehicle clean and well-maintained.
Log official trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities.
Follow all security guidance and instructions from supervisors and security focal points.
Ensure valid documentation for passengers and cargo in the vehicle.
Support risk management efforts and report any issues or concerns to supervisors.
Perform other related duties as required by the organization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid driving license and have a safe driving record. Knowledge of driving rules and regulations is essential, along with basic vehicle mechanical skills. Experience in an international organization or embassy is preferred but not mandatory. Proficiency in using computers and office software (such as MS Word and Excel) is required. The ability to work in a dynamic environment with recurrent security incidents is crucial, as is a proactive approach to identifying issues and suggesting improvements.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of primary education or a high school diploma. Candidates must also hold a valid driving license, which is essential for the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in driving, preferably in a similar role within an international organization or governmental agency. Experience in handling vehicles in challenging environments is advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in Ukrainian is mandatory, along with a working knowledge of English. Knowledge of the UN working language of the duty station is also required. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not specified as essential.
