Job Overview: The position of engineer" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Civil Engineer at CERN involves undertaking the concept and preliminary design, as well as preparing and implementing design and construction contracts for the civil engineering required for the new FCC Injection Complex. This complex will be constructed at the CERN Site in Prevessin, France, pending project approval. The civil engineering work includes a cut and cover reinforced concrete structure over 1km long and a series of surface buildings that will house ancillary technical infrastructure. The role requires collaboration with colleagues from the accelerator and infrastructure teams to prepare conceptual and preliminary layouts and designs for the Injector complex structures. Additionally, the engineer will be responsible for preparing technical specifications and contract documents for procuring civil engineering consultancy services related to the injection complex, managing contracts to develop tender designs and specifications, and playing a lead role in the procurement of civil engineering contractors for the construction of the complex. The engineer will also manage the technical aspects and participate in the commercial aspects of the contracts to ensure successful delivery of the complex.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with accelerator and infrastructure teams to develop conceptual and preliminary designs for the Injector complex structures.
Prepare technical specifications and contract documents for civil engineering consultancy services.
Manage contracts to develop tender designs and specifications for the construction of the complex.
Lead the procurement process for civil engineering contractors.
Oversee the technical and commercial aspects of contracts to ensure successful project delivery.
Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.
Coordinate with various stakeholders to align project objectives and deliverables.
Monitor project progress and make adjustments as necessary to meet deadlines and budget constraints.
Provide technical guidance and support to team members and contractors. 1
Document project developments and maintain accurate records of all project-related activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in Civil Engineering or a related field. They should have a strong background in the design and construction of major cut and cover structures, as well as a technical understanding of bored tunnel design and construction. Proven experience in managing contracts for civil engineering design and construction is essential, along with a demonstrated record of delivering major civil engineering projects as part of a team. Candidates should also exhibit strong project management skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field is required for this position. Equivalent relevant experience may also be considered in lieu of formal education. Candidates should have a solid foundation in civil engineering principles and practices, particularly in relation to large-scale infrastructure projects.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have significant experience in the design and construction of major civil engineering projects, particularly those involving cut and cover structures. Experience in managing contracts for civil engineering design and construction is crucial, as is a proven track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget. Additional Notes: This position is offered as a limited duration contract for 5 years, with the possibility of extension up to 8 years and eligibility for an indefinite contract tenure. The role requires a valid driving license and may involve working during nights, Sundays, and official holidays as needed by the organization. The job grade is classified as 6-7, and the working hours are set at 40 hours per week.
