Job Overview:
The position of Consultant is focused on contributing to the social and family development in communities of Oaxaca that are linked to the cultural practice of textile art associated with the purple snail (Plicopurpura pansa). The consultant will be responsible for designing, adapting, and implementing training actions aimed at promoting shared responsibility and valuing the contributions of both women and men in safeguarding living cultural heritage. This role requires a deep understanding of the cultural significance of textile practices in Oaxaca and aims to foster equitable relationships free from violence. The consultant will also adapt existing guidelines on gender perspectives to the local context and facilitate workshops that promote community collaboration and gender equality. The overall goal is to strengthen community ties and enhance the understanding of gender roles in preserving cultural practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including: conducting a diagnostic assessment to identify perceptions, roles, gender dynamics, community collaboration, and opportunities related to the cultural practice of textile art in the participating municipalities; adapting UNESCO's Guide on Masculinities to the specific social and cultural context of Oaxaca; designing and implementing three participatory workshops aimed at promoting shared responsibility, valuing community work, reflecting on masculinities, and preventing violence against women; and systematizing the results, learnings, and recommendations from the workshops to inform future community development actions and safeguarding of living cultural heritage. The consultant will also be expected to establish a monitoring and evaluation mechanism based on socioeconomic and sociocultural indicators to measure the impact of the interventions.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a professional background in social sciences, humanities, gender studies, anthropology, sociology, psychology, community development, or related fields. A minimum of five years of proven experience in sensitization, training, or educational processes related to masculinities, shared responsibility, gender equality, or human rights is required. Additionally, experience in designing and implementing participatory workshops, community methodologies, or institutional strengthening processes with a gender focus is essential. Candidates should have experience working with communities and governmental or social institutions in the area of gender equity. Knowledge or experience in cultural heritage and/or textile art in Oaxaca, as well as familiarity with the Mixtec language and culture, is desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a degree in social sciences, humanities, gender studies, anthropology, sociology, psychology, community development, or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in gender studies or cultural heritage management would be advantageous.

Experience:
The position requires at least five years of relevant experience in fields related to gender equality, community development, and cultural heritage. Candidates should have a track record of working with communities, conducting training sessions, and implementing projects that promote gender equity and cultural preservation.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as all communications and workshops will be conducted in this language. Knowledge of the Mixtec language is considered a valuable asset, as it would enhance communication and engagement with local communities.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration for this consultancy is six months, and the position is open to external candidates residing in Mexico. The consultant must be available for on-site activities in Oaxaca and capable of coordinating and reporting progress through digital platforms. The consultancy will involve working in specific municipalities, including Pinotepa Don Luis, with potential additional locations pending local authority approval. The consultant will be responsible for providing their own computer, software, stationery, internet service, and phone equipment. The deliverables for payment will be established with the supervisor, and candidates must submit a complete online application, including a CV, cover letter, and examples of previous work.
