Job Overview: The Political Affairs Assistant will work under the supervision of the Badakhshan Head of Office, receiving on-the-job training to support Political Affairs. The role involves gathering, selecting, and analyzing information from various sources, particularly focusing on the representation of vulnerable groups such as minorities and women. The assistant will monitor political developments at national, provincial, and district levels, keeping abreast of trends relevant to the mission's priorities. Responsibilities also include maintaining knowledge of political issues, developing profiles and databases for the political section, and assisting in maintaining contacts with local officials, community leaders, and civil society representatives. The assistant will also prepare summaries of articles, provide translation services, support visiting teams, participate in field missions, and offer administrative and logistical support to the Political Affairs Division.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Political Affairs Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Gathering and analyzing information from diverse sources, focusing on the representation of all societal segments, especially vulnerable groups.
Monitoring political developments at various levels and staying updated on relevant trends.
Maintaining knowledge of political issues and thematic mandates.
Developing and maintaining profiles and databases for the political section.
Establishing and maintaining contacts with local officials, community leaders, and civil society representatives.
Preparing summaries of articles and providing inputs for reports.
Supporting the Office’s provision of good offices in line with the mandate.
Translating documents and interpreting during meetings.
Providing logistical support for meetings and field missions. 1

Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, along with proficiency in Pashto and Dari. The ability to interpret and translate between these languages is essential for effective communication within the role.
Additional Notes: This position is a national UN Volunteer role, meaning the incumbent must be a resident of Afghanistan and familiar with its culture and legal norms. The position includes a monthly Volunteer Living Allowance to cover living expenses, as well as life, health, and disability insurance. In hardship duty stations classified as D or E, a Well-Being Differential will be provided. The role is designed for full-time engagement and may involve field missions and administrative responsibilities.
