Job Overview:
The Driver position at CRS involves providing safe, timely, and efficient transportation and delivery services while ensuring that the fleet vehicles are maintained according to both manufacturer and organizational standards. The role requires supporting routine preventive maintenance, ensuring vehicle reliability, and delivering excellent customer service in compliance with safety and operational procedures. The driver will be responsible for transporting staff, visitors, goods, and equipment, conducting daily vehicle inspections, and ensuring that vehicles are clean, fueled, and equipped with necessary safety items. The position also entails recording all trips and vehicle inspections accurately, reporting any incidents or operational concerns, and promoting safe driving practices. The driver must maintain professionalism and confidentiality while interacting with various stakeholders and support the implementation of measures that enhance vehicle safety and efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Driver include:
  • Providing safe, timely, and professional transportation of staff, visitors, goods, and equipment in accordance with CRS policies and procedures.
  • Receiving and executing daily transport assignments, deliveries, and pick-up/drop-off services as directed by the supervisor.
  • Conducting daily vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness, including checks on tires, engines, fluids, brakes, and other essential components.
  • Ensuring vehicles are clean, fueled, and equipped with all required safety items, such as spare tires and first aid kits.
  • Accurately recording all trips, movements, fuel usage, and vehicle inspections in the m-VMS/VMS systems and submitting reports within established timelines.
  • Promptly reporting accidents, mechanical faults, or operational concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • Supporting preventive maintenance activities and performing minor adjustments or emergency repairs as needed.
  • Ensuring compliance with CRS travel, fleet, safeguarding, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security procedures during all transportation activities.
  • Using approved routes, GPS, maps, and communication tools effectively for safe movement. 1
  • Assisting with loading and unloading goods, luggage, and equipment while ensuring proper handling. 1
  • Promoting safe and eco-friendly driving practices to improve fuel efficiency and reduce operational risks. 1
  • Maintaining regular communication with field teams and office staff during field movements. 1
  • Supporting the implementation of measures that enhance vehicle safety and efficiency. 1
  • Performing any other duties assigned by the Head Driver, Fleet Officer, or Fleet Manager.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Driver position include:
  • A minimum of a Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE/GCE O’ Level) or equivalent.
  • A valid Nigerian driver’s license with a good knowledge of Nigerian roads and traffic regulations.
  • A minimum of 3–5 years of professional driving experience, preferably with an international non-governmental organization (INGO) or similar organization.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance, safety procedures, and defensive driving practices.
  • Familiarity with GPS, mobile applications, and digital reporting tools (m-VMS/MS Office is an added advantage).

Educational Background:
The educational background required for the Driver position includes a minimum of a Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE/GCE O’ Level) or an equivalent qualification. Additionally, a trade school certificate related to vehicle maintenance or driving is considered a plus.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3–5 years of professional driving experience, ideally gained in a humanitarian or development organization. Candidates should have a solid understanding of vehicle maintenance and safety procedures, as well as defensive driving practices.

Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is English. Knowledge of additional local languages is considered an added advantage, enhancing communication with local communities and stakeholders.
