Job Overview: The Communications Associate plays a crucial role in supporting the Central Asian Alliance to End Gender-Based Violence and the UN Women Central Asia Liaison Office. This position involves formulating and implementing communications and advocacy strategies aimed at increasing awareness and engagement with partners, the media, and the public. The Associate is expected to adopt a client-oriented approach to deliver results effectively. The role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including developing coherent communication strategies, supporting advocacy efforts, managing social media presence, and facilitating knowledge sharing. The incumbent will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure that the Alliance's objectives are met and that the voices of civil society and survivors are heard in policy and practice.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide coordination support in developing a coherent communications and advocacy strategy for the Central Asian Alliance EGBV and/or UN Women Central Asia Liaison Office, including gathering inputs and background information, organizing events, and monitoring media coverage.
Assist in creating advocacy materials by identifying key storylines, drafting press releases and articles, coordinating translations, and maintaining relationships with publishers.
Manage the social media presence of the Central Asian Alliance EGBV and/or Central Asian Liaison Office by developing content, updating channels, and supporting digital projects.
Support media relations by maintaining a database of relevant press contacts, responding to information requests, and providing inputs for talking points.
Facilitate knowledge management by identifying best practices, organizing training sessions, and maintaining the GBV knowledge platform. The incumbent will also perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in communication and advocacy, with at least 4 years of progressively responsible experience in media relations, public outreach, and digital communications. They should demonstrate proficiency in producing content for various platforms, supporting events, and utilizing computer applications and web-based management systems. Experience with graphic design tools is desirable, as is familiarity with gender equality and human rights issues. Candidates should also have strong event planning skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
Educational Background: Completion of secondary education is required, while a Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or journalism is desirable. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of communication strategies and advocacy efforts in the context of gender-based violence and women's empowerment.
Experience: The position requires at least 4 years of relevant experience in communication and advocacy, media relations, or public outreach. Candidates should have a proven track record of producing content such as press releases and articles, as well as experience in managing social media and digital communications. Familiarity with international organizations, NGOs, or development projects is considered a strong asset, particularly in relation to gender equality and human rights.
Languages: Fluency in English and Russian is mandatory for this position, as effective communication in both languages is essential for engaging with diverse stakeholders. Knowledge of Kazakh is considered a strong asset, enhancing the ability to connect with local communities and stakeholders in Kazakhstan.
