Job Overview:
The Family Support Specialist position is a part-time role (9 days per fortnight, 7.6 hours Monday to Friday) with a maximum term of 14 months to cover maternity leave. The role is situated within the DFV team in Toowoomba, where the specialist will work to create lasting change for children affected by domestic and family violence. The position involves providing immediate support to women and children impacted by DFV, conducting risk assessments, developing networks and referral pathways, and collecting information for accountability and reporting purposes. The specialist will be expected to apply a trauma-informed practice framework and leverage their expertise in domestic violence to make a positive impact in the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Family Support Specialist include:
  • Providing immediate support to women and children who have experienced domestic and family violence.
  • Conducting thorough risk assessments to identify instances of domestic and family violence.
  • Developing and maintaining strong networks and referral pathways to facilitate desired outcomes for clients.
  • Collecting and accurately recording information for accountability, evaluation, and reporting purposes.
  • Engaging with clients in a trauma-informed manner, ensuring their needs are prioritized and addressed effectively.
  • Collaborating with other team members and stakeholders to enhance service delivery and support for clients.
  • Participating in ongoing training and professional development to stay updated on best practices and relevant research in the field of domestic and family violence.
  • Traveling around the Toowoomba region as required, with occasional travel to Brisbane.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires the following qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a relevant Human Services qualification.
  • Significant experience working in a similar service, particularly with women, children, and young people who have experienced domestic and family violence.
  • A thorough understanding of best practices, professional standards, and relevant research in the field of domestic and family violence.
  • Knowledge of how cultural contexts influence practice approaches in the field.
  • A current valid driver’s license is essential for the role.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a relevant Human Services qualification. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of domestic and family violence and for providing effective support to affected individuals.

Experience:
The role requires candidates to have significant experience working with women, children, and young people who have experienced domestic and family violence.
