Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer – Donor Visibility and Communications coordinator" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Support Coordinator will play a vital role in enhancing UNICEF's visibility and communication efforts in Syria. This position involves documenting program results across various sectors such as education, health, nutrition, WASH, and child protection. The coordinator will assist in ensuring compliance with donor visibility requirements and contribute to the development of communication materials that highlight UNICEF's impact and the contributions of donors. The role requires collaboration with program sections, field offices, and partners to collect information and produce multimedia content that aligns with UNICEF guidelines. The ultimate goal is to strengthen UNICEF's public engagement and advocacy efforts for children's rights and well-being in Syria.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the documentation and communication of UNICEF program results across sectors, including education, health, nutrition, WASH, and child protection.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with donor visibility requirements by preparing and reviewing visibility materials such as plaques, banners, and communication products.
  • Contribute to the development of communication materials, including human-interest stories, social media content, photo captions, press materials, and multimedia products.
  • Support the production of visibility and communication products, including reports, infographics, presentations, and digital content.
  • Collect and organize photos, videos, and field content from program sections and field offices in line with UNICEF consent procedures.
  • Prepare social media posts and digital content for UNICEF Syria platforms, monitoring engagement and analytics.
  • Contribute to media monitoring and prepare regular media digests highlighting issues related to children and UNICEF programming.
  • Coordinate communication inputs from program sections and field offices to ensure consistent messaging.
  • Support the organization of communication activities linked to campaigns, international days, field missions, and high-level visits. 1
  • Ensure all communication outputs adhere to UNICEF communication guidelines and ethical reporting standards. 1
  • Perform other related tasks as required by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to produce high-quality content for various audiences. Proficiency in digital media and social media platforms is essential, along with experience in multimedia production. Familiarity with UNICEF's mission and values, particularly in relation to child rights and humanitarian principles, is highly desirable. The ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment and adapt to changing circumstances is crucial. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are necessary to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field is required. Additional training or certifications in digital media, graphic design, or multimedia production would be advantageous. Candidates should have a solid understanding of communication strategies and tools, particularly in the context of humanitarian work and child rights advocacy.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 1-2 years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related field. Experience working in a humanitarian or development context, particularly with children and vulnerable populations, is highly valued. Familiarity with donor visibility requirements and communication standards in the non-profit sector is also beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of outreach efforts. Additional languages may be considered an asset, depending on the context of the work.

Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in Damascus, Syria. The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position offers a volunteer living allowance of USD 735.5, along with an entry lump sum of USD 35
  • There may be a danger and hardship differential based on the classification of the duty station. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan and are expected to be culturally sensitive. The role may require the volunteer to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, depending on duty station requirements.
