Job Overview: The Shelter & WASHProject Manager position at NRC Niger is crucial for designing, developing, and ensuring the high-quality implementation of interventions related to shelter and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). This role involves working closely with technical teams and under the supervision of the Area Manager. The Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring that all technical outputs meet the required standards and contribute to the overall quality of NRC's projects. This includes supporting proposal processes, budget management, project reviews, and reporting, as well as program monitoring and evaluation. The Project Manager will also lead needs assessments and evaluations, represent NRC in various coordination meetings, and promote integrated programming across different sectors, including education and protection. The role requires a proactive approach to operationalizing synergies between WASH and shelter programs, with a focus on clean energy initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Shelter & WASH Project Manager include:
Ensuring high-quality technical output for all projects related to shelter and WASH.
Supporting the development of proposals, budgets, amendments, and project reviews, ensuring high technical quality throughout.
Collaborating with project teams and the Monitoring and Evaluation Department to monitor and evaluate programs and track indicators.
Leading needs assessments and evaluations in collaboration with various teams.
Representing NRC in meetings with donors, relevant ministries, and humanitarian coordination forums.
Promoting synergies between WASH and shelter programs and integrating them with other NRC initiatives.
Contributing to the recruitment processes for WASH and shelter staff.
Assisting in the development and revision of WASH and shelter strategies based on the required levels of involvement.
Required Qualifications: The position requires the following qualifications:
A minimum of 3 years of experience in a technical field within a humanitarian or recovery context.
At least 2 years of expertise specifically in the WASH sector and/or shelter, preferably in a project management role.
Documented results related to the responsibilities of the position.
A Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as civil or rural engineering, hydrogeology, hydraulics, humanitarian WASH, or environmental studies.
Experience working in complex and volatile environments, demonstrating adaptability and resilience.
Self-awareness of leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as civil or rural engineering, hydrogeology, hydraulics, humanitarian WASH, or a related area of expertise. This educational background is essential for understanding the technical aspects of the role and for effectively managing projects in the WASH and shelter sectors.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 3 years of experience in a technical field within a humanitarian or recovery context, with a specific focus on WASH and shelter projects. A minimum of 2 years of direct experience in the WASH sector is required, along with documented results that demonstrate the candidate's ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Experience in emergency WASH and shelter projects is essential, as well as familiarity with government emergency donors and working with United Nations agencies.
Languages: Fluency in French, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Additionally, fluency in English is considered a plus, as it may facilitate communication with international partners and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Tillaberi, Niger, and is offered as a National Fixed Term contract for a duration of 6 months. The salary and benefits are aligned with NRC Niger’s National salary scale, specifically at Grade
