Job Overview:
The Individual Contractor will play a crucial role in supporting the Nature and Market-Based Solutions Section’s portfolio by ensuring the successful execution and delivery of project and programme activities. This position is integral to the UN-REDD Programme, which aims to enhance global commitments to combat climate change through forest protection and restoration. The contractor will assist in various administrative and financial tasks, including the preparation of legal agreements, budget monitoring, and collaboration with implementing partners. The role requires a proactive approach to managing project documentation and ensuring compliance with UN regulations, thereby facilitating effective project implementation and support for the Climate Change Division.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Individual Contractor will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
  • Assisting the Regional Coordinator in preparing and tracking legal agreements, ensuring compliance with UN rules and regulations.
  • Coordinating with the UNEP UN-REDD Administrative Officer on programme/project planning and preparation, monitoring the status of proposals, and ensuring timely submission of financial documents.
  • Participating in human resource activities, including recruitment, contract extensions, and processing personnel actions in the UN SAP-based ERP system (Umoja).
  • Supporting the organization of meetings and events, providing technical support for virtual/hybrid formats, and managing logistics.
  • Managing travel requests for participants and ensuring timely disbursement of allowances and recording of travel expenses.
  • Contributing to the processing and filing of legal obligations, including expenditure and audit statements, and preparing payment requests.
  • Undertaking additional administrative duties as required, including meeting organization and minute preparation.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with a first-level university degree in finance, accounting, business or public administration, or a related field being desirable. A minimum of five years of experience in finance, budget, accounting, administrative services, or audit is required. Experience within the United Nations or other international organizations is advantageous. Proficiency in computer skills, particularly in Excel and the MS Office suite, is essential, along with exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include the completion of a high school diploma or equivalent. A first-level university degree in finance, accounting, business or public administration, or a related field is highly desirable and would enhance a candidate's qualifications for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience in finance, budget, accounting, administrative services, or audit. Experience working with the United Nations or other international organizations is considered an advantage, as it demonstrates familiarity with the operational and regulatory frameworks of such entities. Candidates should also possess strong computer skills, particularly in Excel and the MS Office suite, to effectively manage financial documentation and reporting.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another UN language is highly desirable, with French being an advantage. This linguistic capability is essential for effective communication within the multicultural environment of the UN.
