Job Overview:
The Project Associate position is designed to enhance the implementation capacity of UNDP Suriname, particularly in relation to the Engagement Facility and its objectives. The incumbent will work closely with Programme Associates to support effective project implementation and oversight. This role involves providing administrative and financial support to project teams, ensuring that project activities are executed efficiently and in accordance with UNDP procedures. The Project Associate will also play a crucial role in knowledge sharing and capacity building, contributing to the overall success of the projects and the organization’s mission in Suriname.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Associate will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Providing effective administrative and financial support by assisting the Finance and Administration Associate and Project Manager in achieving project results through communication, contract management, and logistical arrangements for meetings and field visits.
  • Arranging external and internal meetings, drafting minutes, and maintaining project files and records.
  • Preparing requests for payments and reimbursements, advising international advisors and national consultants on financial matters, and calculating payments due.
  • Managing procurement and logistics for project implementation, ensuring compliance with UNDP procedures, and making logistical arrangements for project activities.
  • Supporting knowledge building and sharing by participating in training and capacity-building activities, disseminating relevant data and lessons learned, and compiling project knowledge and tools for distribution to partners.
  • Performing other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office and organization.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of secondary education, with a university degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field being advantageous. The role requires a strong background in administrative support and project management, with proven experience in supporting projects within donor organizations, governmental institutions, NGOs, or the private sector. Familiarity with financial tools and spreadsheets is essential, along with excellent organizational and communication skills.

Educational Background:
Completion of secondary education is required for this position. A university degree (bachelor's degree) in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field will be considered an asset, although it is not mandatory for application.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible administrative or project experience for candidates with secondary education, or 3 years for those with a bachelor's degree. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in supporting project activities, particularly in organizing project events and meetings, as well as managing administrative tasks such as maintaining project files and records.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Dutch is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders.
