Job Overview: As a member of the Crisis Response Recovery & Development (CRRD) HQ team, the Strategy Officer plays a crucial role in enabling the IRC to implement its strategic initiatives effectively. This position involves a diverse range of responsibilities, including leading and coordinating strategic projects, facilitating annual planning and risk management processes, and evaluating the impact of donor policy changes. The Strategy Officer will work closely with Strategy Leads across the department's four pillars: Program Delivery, Technical Excellence, the Emergencies Unit, and the Awards Management Unit. This role is essential in helping the IRC deliver greater impact for individuals affected by conflict and crisis, requiring strong strategic problem-solving skills, excellent interpersonal abilities, and the capacity to thrive in a multicultural and dynamic environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Strategy Officer will be responsible for coordinating strategic projects, managing substantive workstreams within larger initiatives, and overseeing smaller standalone projects under the guidance of senior leadership. Key responsibilities include producing high-quality analyses to inform strategic decision-making, conducting targeted analytical deep-dives, and synthesizing insights from diverse stakeholder groups. The officer will drive the execution of strategic projects from initiation to delivery, ensuring timelines and stakeholder alignment are met. They will manage relationships with mid-level and senior staff, facilitate decision-making across cross-functional teams, and translate analytical insights into actionable plans. Additionally, the Strategy Officer will coordinate cross-cutting initiatives, track progress against annual objectives, and support senior leadership engagements.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent and have approximately 3-5 years of relevant work experience, with at least two years in a strategy or organizational performance role. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a track record of high performance and possess strong organizational and time-management skills. They should be capable of handling multiple demands in short time frames and have proven attention to detail and analytical skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with strong meeting facilitation and presentation abilities. The candidate should be highly collaborative, able to work independently in a dynamic team structure, and comfortable with ambiguity and shifting priorities.
Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required for this position. Candidates with advanced degrees in relevant fields may be preferred, as they can bring additional expertise and insights to the role.
Experience: The position requires approximately 3-5 years of relevant work experience, particularly in a strategy or organizational performance role. Candidates should have a proven track record of progressively increasing responsibilities and high performance in their previous roles. Experience in a humanitarian or development organization is preferred, as it aligns with the IRC's mission and operational context.
Languages: While proficiency in English is mandatory, knowledge of additional languages such as French, Arabic, or Spanish is considered a valuable asset and may enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.
Additional Notes: This position may require full or part-time remote work, with part-time remote employees expected to share workspace. The compensation for this role ranges from $85,000 to $95,000 for US-based candidates, with variations based on factors such as labor market conditions, job type, and individual candidate experience.
