Job Overview: The Philanthropy Data & Stewardship Intern will report directly to the Senior Manager of Philanthropy and will play a crucial role in supporting the Philanthropy and Partnerships (P&P) team. The intern will be responsible for managing donor data accurately and assisting in stewardship processes that are vital for maintaining strong donor relationships and advancing fundraising goals. The intern will ensure data integrity, document procedures, and assist with various donor stewardship activities, which are essential for effective engagement with donors and for the success of fundraising efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern's responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Data Management & Accuracy: Upload donor actions and gift information into the database with precision. Verify and update donor gift details, including soft credits for donor-advised funds and third-party platforms. Ensure that primary and secondary donor relationships are accurately reflected in the database. Conduct regular data quality checks to identify and rectify errors.
Donor Recognition & Stewardship: Review donor records to identify recognition names for high-value donors based on their giving history. Create and maintain lists of donors requiring recognition updates and coordinate outreach with relationship managers. Input updated recognition information into donor profiles to support stewardship programs.
Collaboration, Research & Analysis: Work closely with P&P team members to ensure that data supports strategic fundraising initiatives. Research and analyze donor-advised fund (DAF) data to inform engagement strategies. Support relationship mapping of volunteers and key stakeholders to strengthen connections and identify opportunities for growth in philanthropy and fundraising efforts.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet specific qualifications to be eligible for this internship. They should demonstrate a strong attention to detail and accuracy in managing and reviewing data. An interest in philanthropy, fundraising, or the nonprofit sector is essential, along with a willingness to learn about donor stewardship practices. Familiarity with data management tools or CRM systems is considered an asset. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills are necessary to build strong working relationships across diverse cultural and organizational settings. Additionally, candidates should have demonstrated project management experience, proficiency with MS Office tools, and the ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines. Analytical and problem-solving skills are also important, as is the ability to adapt to change management processes.
Educational Background: The position requires candidates to be post-secondary students who are returning to school in the Fall. This requirement is part of the eligibility criteria set by the Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Job Program, which funds this internship. Candidates must also be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or individuals who have been granted refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. International students are not eligible for this position due to the program's focus on supporting youth entering the Canadian labor market.
Experience: The internship is designed for youth between the ages of 15 and 30 at the beginning of the employment period. Candidates should have some experience or familiarity with data management and donor stewardship practices, although specific prior work experience may not be strictly required. The emphasis is on the ability to learn quickly and effectively contribute to the team's objectives.
