Job Overview: The Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) Manager will oversee the management of the MHAC in Yaoundé/Douala, Cameroon, under the supervision of the Chief of Mission and the Chief Migration Health Officer. The role involves organizing and supervising the migration health assessment process to meet the technical requirements of resettlement countries. This includes conducting medical examinations, imaging, laboratory testing, vaccinations, TB management, treatment and referrals, and ensuring proper documentation and information transmission. The manager will also maintain the infrastructure and equipment of the MHAC, ensuring they meet professional standards of quality and safety. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure efficient, client-centered procedures and the implementation of quality improvement systems within the MHAC.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the MHAC Manager include organizing and supervising the migration health assessment process, conducting health assessments for refugees and migrants, maintaining the MHAC infrastructure and equipment, coordinating with the Chief Migration Health Officer, leading quality improvement initiatives, supervising clinical and non-clinical staff, establishing staff development strategies, liaising with external service providers, overseeing the procurement of medical supplies, maintaining confidentiality of migration health data, and facilitating the integration of health assessment activities into the overall migration programming of the Mission. The manager will also advise colleagues on the link between health assessment programs and other core migration health program areas, and perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in Medicine from an accredited institution, with preferred specializations in internal medicine, pediatrics, anaesthesiology, emergency medicine, family medicine, or obstetrics and gynecology. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience, including at least three years in managerial roles. Alternatively, candidates with a Master's Degree in Community or Public Health or related fields may qualify with five years of relevant experience, including three years in managerial roles. Continuous clinical experience in a multidisciplinary hospital setting or similar international clinic context is also required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in Medicine from an accredited academic institution, with preferred specializations in internal medicine and its subspecialties, pediatrics, anaesthesiology, emergency medicine, family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology. A Master's Degree in Community or Public Health, Medical Specialization in Infectious Diseases, Tropical Medicine, or other related fields is also acceptable, particularly for candidates with five years of relevant experience.
Experience: Candidates should have professional continuous clinical experience, preferably in a multidisciplinary hospital setting or at IOM/similar international clinic context. Experience in Migration Health Assessments and demonstrated progressive experience in health program management are essential. Additionally, experience in project development, management, and report writing, as well as proven abilities to establish partnerships with government institutions and health institutions, are required. Knowledge of public health, patient safety, and infection prevention and control is also necessary, with experience in migration health emergency response considered an asset.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, along with at least a working knowledge of one additional UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish). Fluency in both English and French is required for all applicants, encompassing both oral and written communication skills.
Additional Notes: The position is full-time and involves managerial responsibilities. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with various stakeholders and may be required to travel within the country. The role may involve additional responsibilities as assigned by the direct supervisor, and the organization emphasizes the importance of maintaining high standards of conduct and ethics among staff.
