Job Overview:
The position is part of Mercy Corps' Alumni Talent Pool, which aims to support emergency response and complex program start-ups by fast-tracking qualified alumni into temporary Senior Finance roles. The roles available include Emergency Finance Lead, Finance Manager, and Subaward Manager, each with specific responsibilities tailored to the financial operations of Mercy Corps in emergency contexts. The selected candidates will have the opportunity to work on short-term assignments, typically lasting around three months, providing them with professional and personal flexibility while gaining diverse experiences in challenging environments. The roles require a proactive approach to financial management, compliance with organizational policies, and collaboration with various teams to ensure effective program delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities for the Senior Finance roles include developing and implementing financial strategies for operational startup in emergency contexts, overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with Mercy Corps and donor policies, managing country portfolio budgets, and providing timely financial reports to stakeholders. Specific responsibilities for each role include:
  • Emergency Finance Lead: Develop strategies for rapid emergency response, set up financial systems, manage budgets, and lead a diverse finance team.
  • Finance Manager: Oversee overall financial operations, implement internal control systems, manage cash flow, and supervise a finance team.
  • Finance Manager for Accounting: Ensure effective financial accounting operations, manage accounting functions, and assist with audits.
  • Subaward Manager: Guide subaward financial monitoring, assist Program Managers with subawards, and ensure compliance with financial reporting standards. All roles require strong leadership, team-building, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to adapt to changing circumstances in high-pressure environments.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a BA/S or equivalent in accounting or finance, with at least five years of field experience in international relief and development operations. They should have prior team management experience and have worked with Mercy Corps within the last four years. Strong skills in budget preparation, financial reporting, and accounting are essential, along with advanced proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are required, as well as the ability to work effectively in diverse teams and challenging environments. Candidates must also be willing to deploy internationally at short notice and work non-standard hours as needed.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required for this position. Candidates with equivalent experience may also be considered. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in financial principles, accounting practices, and management skills necessary for overseeing financial operations in complex environments.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of five years of relevant experience in international relief and development, specifically in financial operations and budget management.
