Job Overview:
The position of Senior Investment Professional is crucial for IDB Invest as it seeks to strengthen its international presence and origination capabilities. The successful candidate will report to the manager responsible for International Business at the Industries and Cross-Cutting Themes Department (ICT) of IDB Invest, as well as to the Manager of the Global Partnerships Office (GPS) of IDB and the Principal Officer of the External Affairs and Communications Department of IDB, all based in Miami. The role involves leading business origination efforts in North America (United States and Canada) and identifying investment opportunities that align with IDB Invest’s mandate. The candidate will be responsible for building a robust pipeline of high-impact private sector projects in LAC, thereby contributing to the organization's mission of sustainable development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Business Development & Market Scanning: Identify and proactively develop relationships with corporates, financial institutions, funds, family offices, and multinational investors interested in LAC. Monitor market trends to identify priority sectors, companies, and cross-border investment opportunities into LAC.
  • Origination & Pipeline Creation: Source and screen investment opportunities across priority sectors such as infrastructure, tourism, digital, agribusiness, financial institutions, and manufacturing. Build a qualified pipeline for IDB Invest financing, including debt, equity, co-financing, and blended finance. Ensure effective handover to structuring teams for due diligence and structuring, in coordination with the Regions Department (RGS) and the Industries and Cross-Cutting Themes Department (ICT) to consider country and industry priorities.
  • Strategic Engagement & Partnerships: Represent IDB Invest at key industry events and investor forums to position the institution and originate partnerships. Support the design and execution of IDB Group and high-profile events related to North America. Maintain senior-level relationships with C-suite executives, investors, and corporate sustainability and strategy leaders. Coordinate with embassies, trade promotion agencies, chambers of commerce, DFIs, and regional business councils.
  • Internal Coordination: Collaborate with IDB, IDB Lab, and IDB Invest’s investment teams, syndication and other financial products, and advisory services teams to align business development with institutional priorities. Contribute to market strategies, sector and mission briefs, and origination campaigns. Support the preparation of briefings for the President and Senior Management regarding planning, progress, and results. Utilize CRM and market intelligence tools to track outreach and report progress and results to senior management.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess an advanced degree (Masters, MBA, or equivalent) in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, International Relations, or a related field. Additionally, the candidate should have at least 8 years of relevant professional experience in investment banking, corporate development, private equity, business origination, or financial services. A proven track record in sourcing and structuring private sector investments is essential, along with deep market knowledge of the respective region and its outbound investment flows. Strong C-level network and client management experience are highly valued, as is an understanding of client needs and challenges, market idiosyncrasies, and drivers of change in LAC.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have an advanced degree, such as a Master's degree, MBA, or equivalent, in fields related to Finance, Business Administration, Economics, International Relations, or similar disciplines. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of investment and financial markets, particularly in the context of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience, with a preference for candidates who have around 15 years of experience. This experience should be in investment banking, corporate development, private equity, business origination, or financial services. A proven track record in sourcing and structuring private sector investments is necessary, along with a deep understanding of the market dynamics in the respective region and its investment flows. Strong client relationship management skills and experience are also highly valued.

Languages:
Proficiency in English and Spanish, both spoken and written, is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of Portuguese is considered a strong advantage, as it enhances communication capabilities within the diverse linguistic landscape of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Additional Notes:
The position is offered under an International Staff contract for an initial duration of 36 months, with the possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement. The IDB Group provides a competitive compensation package, including an annual base salary expressed on a net-of-tax basis.
