Job Overview: The Nurse position at UNRWA involves providing comprehensive maternal health care services, which include pre-conception care, antenatal and post-natal care, family planning, and mental health services. The incumbent will also be responsible for child health, dental services, education activities, and counseling, all in accordance with the health department's technical instructions and the Family Health Team approach. The role requires participation in various health-related activities, including addressing cross-cutting issues such as Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and disability. The Nurse will maintain high standards of infection control, participate in training activities, and ensure proper documentation and reporting of health information. The position also involves supervising nursing activities and ensuring the availability of medical supplies. The Nurse will follow up with patients, assist in home visits, and take on the responsibilities of the Senior Staff Nurse when necessary. This role is crucial in ensuring that health services are delivered effectively and in alignment with UNRWA's mission.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide technical support for comprehensive maternal health care services, including pre-conception, antenatal, post-natal, family planning, non-communicable diseases (NCD), mental health, child health, and dental services.
Perform periodic IUD insertions and follow-up checkups in accordance with local regulations.
Participate in activities addressing cross-cutting issues such as GBV and disability, ensuring health services are provided within the Family Health Team context.
Maintain high standards of infection control, including sterilization of instruments and proper medical waste management.
Facilitate training activities and provide on-the-job training, ensuring accurate recording and reporting of health information.
Manage and keep records of medical supplies, uniforms, and equipment, ensuring their availability and proper disposal of used items.
Follow up with patients who default on treatment and assist with home visits to monitor health status.
Assume the duties of the Senior Staff Nurse in their absence.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have successfully completed secondary school and possess a university degree or at least three years of nursing studies from an accredited institution. A valid nursing license to practice in the country of duty station is also required. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to the UN's core values of integrity, professionalism, and respect for diversity. The ability to apply technical expertise, follow instructions, plan and organize effectively, adapt to change, and cope with pressure is essential.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a successful completion of secondary school and a university degree or a minimum of three years of nursing studies from an accredited educational institution. Professional qualifications include a valid nursing license to practice in the country of duty station, where applicable.
Experience: Candidates must have at least three years of progressively responsible and relevant work experience in nursing services. Experience in using computer applications related to health services is desirable. Additionally, candidates should indicate any involvement in outside activities, such as employment, volunteering, or public speaking, as this information is required for the application process.
Languages: English is the mandatory working language for this position, with a required proficiency level of UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Arabic is considered a desirable language, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level I in all aspects. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
Additional Notes: This position is offered as a Daily Paid contract, and the vacancy notice is open to external candidates. Only candidates residing in the West Bank or Hebron, and within commuting distance of the duty station, with authorization to work in the duty station at the time of application, are eligible to apply. The agency will not facilitate the issuance of work permits, and without a valid work permit, the appointment may be rescinded.
