Job Overview: The Regional Project Manager for Asia will be responsible for managing the SAS Asia project portfolio, ensuring adherence to CIMMYT's project management standards and compliance with project terms and conditions. This role requires a self-motivated and result-oriented professional who can effectively coordinate project activities, manage risks, and ensure the timely submission of high-quality project documents. The position involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including project leads, funders, and CIMMYT headquarters, to ensure successful project implementation and alignment with organizational goals. The manager will also oversee budget management, human resources activities, and the procurement of assets, ensuring that all project operations are conducted efficiently and effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Regional Project Manager include promoting teamwork and collaboration among colleagues, managing the SAS Asia project portfolio, coordinating project planning and implementation, managing risks associated with project activities, and ensuring the development and updating of key project documents. The manager will be responsible for the timely submission of project documents to funders, overseeing budget management, managing consultants and sub-agreements, supporting proposal development, leading HR activities, supervising project support staff, and liaising with CIMMYT headquarters. Additionally, the manager will utilize CIMMYT and CGIAR databases to manage project information and documents, ensuring data security and appropriate sharing.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an applied master’s degree in fields related to International Development, Development Studies with a focus on Project Management, Management, or Business. Other relevant fields of study may be considered based on the candidate’s experience. A Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is desired. Applicants should have a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, demonstrating progressive management experience in donor-funded projects, particularly in agriculture, industry, business, and market development. Strong multitasking abilities and effective communication skills are essential, along with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an applied master’s degree in relevant fields such as International Development, Development Studies, Management, or Business. Candidates with degrees in other applicable fields may also be considered based on their demonstrated experience in project management and related areas.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, with a focus on progressive management roles, particularly in donor-funded projects. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting the demands of competing project timelines. Experience in agriculture, industry, business, and market development is particularly valuable.
Languages: Fluency in English at a C1 level is mandatory for this position. Candidates should possess strong communication skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in the context of working in multicultural environments across Asia.
Additional Notes: This position is for an initial fixed-term contract of 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. CIMMYT offers an attractive remuneration package that includes health insurance and other benefits.
