Job Overview:
The Mechanical Design Engineer position at CERN is part of the graduate program aimed at motivated young engineers with a keen interest in mechanical systems. The Design Office is responsible for the mechanical design of components essential for CERN's accelerators and detectors, which include advanced equipment like superconducting magnets and vacuum systems. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will work under the guidance of a senior design engineer, engaging in the design and development of mechanical components and systems from initial concept through to production. Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Mechanical Design Engineer include creating detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using CATIA V5, ensuring compliance with ISO GPS norms. You will perform structural analytical and numerical calculations to validate designs, collaborate with cross-functional teams including material science, manufacturing, and quality assurance to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability. Continuous improvement of designs based on feedback and testing results is essential, as is participation in problem-solving and troubleshooting activities related to design and production issues. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate documentation of designs, modifications, and project progress, ensuring that all engineering practices align with CERN's standards and protocols.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of ISO GPS tolerancing standards and their application in mechanical design. Practical knowledge of mechanics and mechanical systems is essential. Proficiency in CAD software, particularly CATIA V5, for creating 3D and 2D drawings is required. The ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment is crucial, as is a commitment to learning French alongside proficiency in spoken and written English. Eligibility criteria include being a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State, having a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical or Technical Engineering (or a related field), and holding either a Bachelor's or Master's degree. Applicants without a university degree or those with a PhD are not eligible for this position.
