Job Overview:
The position of Voluntario(a) de la ONU is crucial for supporting UNICEF's Child Protection program in prioritized municipalities and states in Venezuela. The volunteer will be based in San Fernando, Apure, and will contribute to the monitoring and management of programs implemented by UNICEF and its partners. This role involves working closely with a multidisciplinary team of specialists and consultants to implement projects and programs effectively. The volunteer will engage with various stakeholders, including government partners, NGOs, and civil society organizations, to strengthen local capacities and ensure the protection of children and adolescents from violence and exploitation. The volunteer will also be responsible for preparing work plans, conducting field visits, and supporting the execution of projects in Táchira and Apure, ensuring that the rights of children and adolescents are upheld in these vulnerable communities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The volunteer will undertake a variety of tasks under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Western Field Office, including:
  • Preparing a work schedule and plan with guidance from the Chief of the Western Field Office.
  • Developing, monitoring, and documenting work plans with implementing partners, including training on administrative procedures and reporting to UNICEF.
  • Conducting field visits and monitoring activities through in-person or virtual meetings, reviewing monthly activity reports, and performing final evaluations.
  • Providing technical and operational support for project execution in Táchira and Apure, contributing to the preparation of interim and final project reports.
  • Conducting training activities related to child protection, the functioning of the national child protection system, and violence prevention.
  • Preparing technical reports or informational materials and contributing to the review of documents submitted by partners.
  • Enhancing visibility of child protection actions with UNICEF's support.
  • Creating synergies with other programs to promote better intersectoral initiatives.
  • Completing mandatory UNICEF courses. 1

  • Performing any other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong accountability, adaptability, creativity, judgment, decision-making, planning, organization, professionalism, and self-management skills. They should demonstrate a commitment to UNICEF's mission and values, particularly in promoting children's rights and welfare. The ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team and engage effectively with diverse stakeholders is essential. Additionally, candidates should have a strong understanding of child protection issues and the challenges faced by vulnerable populations in Venezuela.

Educational Background:
A degree in social sciences, international development, child protection, or a related field is required. Candidates with advanced degrees or specialized training in child protection or social work will be given preference. Knowledge of UNICEF's policies and procedures related to child protection is highly desirable.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in child protection, social work, or related fields. Experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly children and adolescents, is essential. Familiarity with the local context in Venezuela and previous experience in humanitarian or development settings will be advantageous. The ability to work in challenging environments and adapt to changing circumstances is crucial for success in this role.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in the region. Proficiency in English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with international partners and stakeholders. Knowledge of indigenous languages spoken in the region would also be beneficial.

The position is based in San Fernando, Apure, and San Cristóbal, where volunteers will support child protection activities in prioritized municipalities. The role requires cultural sensitivity, empathy, and strong community engagement skills. Volunteers must be adaptable and willing to work in diverse and dynamic environments. While transportation and communication may present challenges, UNICEF provides support to facilitate operations. Volunteers are responsible for their accommodation during field missions. The monthly allowance for this assignment is 1299 USD, along with a pre-assignment subsidy and a final assignment subsidy upon contract completion.
