Job Overview: The position of Voluntario(a) de la ONU is crucial for supporting UNICEF's Child Protection program in prioritized municipalities and states in Venezuela. The volunteer will be based in San Fernando, Apure, and will contribute to the monitoring and management of programs implemented by UNICEF and its partners. This role involves working closely with a multidisciplinary team of specialists and consultants to implement projects and programs effectively. The volunteer will engage with various stakeholders, including government partners, NGOs, and civil society organizations, to enhance local capacities and ensure the protection of children and adolescents from violence and exploitation. The volunteer will also be responsible for preparing work plans, monitoring activities, and providing technical support for project execution.
Duties and Responsibilities: The volunteer will undertake several key tasks, including:
Preparing a work schedule and plan under the guidance of the Head of the Western Field Office.
Developing, accompanying, delivering results, and documenting work plans with implementing partners, including training on administrative procedures and reporting to UNICEF.
Monitoring activities through field visits, in-person or virtual meetings, and reviewing monthly activity reports.
Supporting the technical and operational execution of projects in Táchira and Apure states related to child protection.
Conducting training activities on child protection, the national child protection system, and violence prevention.
Preparing technical reports and contributing to the visibility of child protection actions.
Creating synergies with other programs to promote intersectoral initiatives.
Completing mandatory UNICEF courses.
Supporting the national child protection section as needed. 1
Performing any other related tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong accountability, adaptability, creativity, judgment, decision-making, planning, organization, professionalism, and self-management skills. They should demonstrate a commitment to UNICEF's mission and values, particularly in promoting children's rights and well-being. The ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and engage with diverse communities is essential.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background in social sciences, child development, international relations, or a related field is required. Candidates should have a solid understanding of child protection issues and the ability to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings.
Experience: Candidates should have prior experience working in child protection, community development, or related fields. Experience in monitoring and evaluation, project management, and collaboration with governmental and non-governmental organizations is highly desirable. Familiarity with the local context and challenges faced by vulnerable populations in Venezuela will be an asset.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in the region. Knowledge of English is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication with international partners and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The position is a volunteer role based in San Fernando, Apure, and San Cristóbal, with a monthly allowance of 1299 USD. Volunteers are responsible for their accommodation and overnight stays during field missions. The assignment may involve working in challenging environments, requiring resilience and adaptability. UNICEF provides support to facilitate operations and mitigate challenges related to transportation and access to services. Volunteers will receive medical, dental, and hospital insurance, as well as life and disability insurance. Additional benefits include a pre-assignment allowance and a final assignment allowance upon completion of the contract.
