Job Overview: The Individual Contractor will play a crucial role in supporting UNCTAD's research and policy analysis efforts focused on investment promotion in developing countries. The contractor will work under the supervision of the Economic Affairs Officer and will be expected to deliver high-quality analytical support that aligns with UNCTAD's objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Individual Contractor will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities that include: (a) Conducting comprehensive research and data analysis on de-risking investment strategies for the SDGs, focusing on identifying trends, best practices, and policy recommendations in sectors such as renewable energy; (b) Performing research and drafting reports on investment promotion in climate-relevant sectors, particularly concerning the energy transition, to support ongoing analytical work and technical assistance initiatives; (c) Assisting in the organization and preparation of events for the World Investment Forum, specifically workshops that bring together investment promotion agencies and stakeholders to discuss de-risking solutions; (d) Monitoring and reviewing newly adopted investment policy measures in UN member states for entry into the Investment Policy Monitor database, focusing on measures that promote inward and outward investment, thereby facilitating comparative analysis and policy advisory work for developing countries.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's) in Economics or Public Policy. A minimum of one year of relevant working experience in research activities related to economic policies, company law, or business operations is required. Experience in international investment is considered desirable, while prior experience working in an international organization is an advantage. Familiarity with climate change issues and the energy transition will also be beneficial for this role.
